Like I said, this show lost me a little with episode 5, but I think it may have won me over again with the impending goddess versus goddess fight that’s about to happen. Let’s get into episode 7!
We ended the previous episode with Sekhmet’s “good soul” occupying the body of Annette and now she is headed to the front line of the battle in Paris along with Richter and Alucard. Richter is worried that Annette may not survive the experience of being Sekhmet’s vessel, but what are you going to do? You can’t sacrifice the whole world.
The battle starts off on an event footing, I think. Despite Erzsebet’s goddess-hood, Edouard manages to turn the night creatures with souls against those who are more loyal to Erzsebet, so that’s at least one less thing for Alucard to worry about. And even if it is physically taxing to her, Annette as Sekhmet manages to confuse Erzsebet enough to allow Richter, Juste, Maria, and Mizrak to decimate Erzsebet’s vampire forces and try to put a dent on Erzsebet as well. Got to say, the action scenes definitely have not dropped in quality from the first Castlevania series. It’s not the same style, but it’s got that same kinetic beauty that the first series had.
Of course, since this is a show that needs suspense, the heroes’ strength begin to flag. And just when I thought they were going to kill off Alucard just for the shock value, guess who flies in to save the day but Olrox! I thought it was either Maria or Tera but so happy to be wrong! Olrox, Alucard, and Mizrak are now fighting in the same general area. Let’s unite these homosexuals on the battlefield!
Unfortunately, Mizrak suffers what looks to be a fatal wound in the midst of battle and Olrox is forced to stop from killing Drolta and nurse Mizrak instead before he dies. The show does insinuate that Olrox and Alucard have a past together, which I really would like to hear about but i don’t think they’ll be able to fit that in one more episode.
What they will fit into that other episode is yet another climactic fight maybe? Because good!Sekhmet is unable to fully subsume evil!Sekhmet back to her before Drolta arrive to take Erzsebet’s mangled body away from the battlefield. But Drolta isn’t here to save Erzsebet! In a twist I didn’t expect but also felt completely logical, Drolta realizes that she’s been the perfect vessel for Sekhmet all along. She drains Erzsebet dry and I guess she’s the true big bad of the show!
