Ron Watches ThamePo Heart That Skips a Beat Episode 7

It looks like the boys are back together after the end of the last episode, so we hopefully are going to get entirely different conflicts this time around. What are they going to be? Is it enough for me to suspend my disbelief? Let’s find out!

Thame and Po had that sickeningly sweet “no, you say bye” thing at the end of the previous episode, and now at the start of this new one Thame is finding it difficult to squeeze in time for his and Po’s movie date. There’s so much to do that even when Pepper helps him free up a day in their schedule it’s immediately filled up with other concerns. Thame isn’t able to free up any more time for Po, but he does promise he’ll send photos of what he’s doing just to keep Po updated.

After that sweet interaction the guys are at a grocery to look for food and snack to eat while they gear up for their latest group single and I can’t wait for the product placement opportunities that are about to be sprung on us. But what is sprung on us instead is Jun trying to wedge himself in between Thame and Po. And while I wouldn’t mind being wedged between Thame and Po I don’t think this show is about polyamory. What is Jun’s deal?

Later on that night Jun catches up to Po as he is crossing the street and I truly think that Jun’s thing is Po. Jun tells Po that he should work on the MV with him so he gets to spend time close to Thame, but I don’t really get what Jun is getting out of this? What are you getting out of this, Jun?

Thame, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be getting enough out of Po because he’s complaining that Po only sent him four photos that day and not five like he did. See, I would usually find “accounting” like that off-putting but I understand where Thame is coming from because you’re waiting for pictures from this guy:

The next day, Po arrives at the dorm and gets Thame all excited but it’s Jun who immediately monopolizes Po’s time and wants to see what he’s done for the MV. Dylan says Jun’s always been like that and also messed with Dylan and Thame when they first started getting close and at this point I have to wonder why Thame didn’t expect this but knew well enough to get Jun on his side first. Maybe you are a bad leader.

Po finally calls Jun out for what he’s doing but Jun expertly deflects by saying that if he left the two of them alone none of the work would get done. Which is a fair point but can’t you let them at least sit beside each other while the three of you work? There are many ways to skin a cat!

Jun then takes Po to some secret basement speakeasy or something and then finally comes clean to Po. He’s putting so much pressure on Po because he wants him to succeed and because that success is going to impress Thame. So he was being a wingman all along! Could have made it less complicated and I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but wouldn’t you want to always look your best for someone you want to be with but ANYWAY. Let’s just roll with this.

So the two of them are working together and Jun is being a tough co-worker and when Po just can’t think of anything more he asks Jun to sing the song for him again. And then Jun puts his hand on Po’s ear and sings the song to him and I’m like? Was that necessary? Is Thame gonna walk in on them in this intimate pose? But no, it really didn’t mean anything and was probably just fan service. Oh well.

Po runs into Thame on the way back home. He thinks Thame has been waiting for him to check on the work he’s done so far, but we as an audience know it’s to possibly go on that movie date. But I’m just as confused as Po when Thame doesn’t ask him out to the movies and doesn’t check on his work but they do do that photo thing.

The next day Po presents his MV idea to Mars and the gang likes it. Dylan also presents the beat for the song and while he’s doing that Jun takes care of Po, who’s fallen asleep on the kitchen table and Thame walks in on that little scene. Is Jun making him jealous or does he also have a thing for Po?

As the weeks progress Mars gets more and more of their tasks done but that also means that Thame’s planned movie date with Po also keeps getting pushed back. How long has that movie been in the theaters now? The continued work also means Po and Jun spending more time together and Thame maybe isn’t the biggest fan of that arrangement.

At the end of the shoot day, Thame finally gets to invite Po out to their movie date and makes a little fuss about Po and Jun spending a lot of time together. But then Jun asks Po to celebrate with him at the secret bar and I’m really confused as to what Jun’s deal is. Po turns him down, which leads to a one-on-one talk between Jun and Thame. But before that even happens, the guys have another problem — their song has been given to another artist.

Thame confronts the CEO about this and it turns out that these boys didn’t get good legal advice because the contracts they signed gives the rights of any song they compose to the company. The CEO also brings up this whole business of Thame being the ~Chosen One~ of the T-Pop industry and how him being chosen by Korea is the first step to going global and I just…sigh. I really think that the music industry parts of this show are its weakest link because it comes off as so fanfic-y. And does the writer really think that racist Korean idol fans will accept a fully-foreign group that isn’t East Asian? They were just whining literally a week ago about the possibility of a reality show debuting a group with majority foreigner members! Also, not to toot P-Pop’s horn but SB19 and BINI have managed to muscle their way into the global scene without prostrating themselves in front of the Koreans.

While all of this is happening, Po is still waiting at the cinemas and oh my god you poor tall hunk of a man. Jun doesn’t help by telling him that Thame probably already forgot about the date because of everything that’s happened. But then Thame still makes it to the date and okay sure but I’m still rolling my eyes because of the music industry things that happened before this scene.
