Ron Watches Love Is a Poison Episode 5

We’re getting closer to the halfway point of the series! Let’s find out what’s going to happen to these two in this episode!

The previous episode ended with Shiba realizing that he is in love with Haruto, but only after Haruto has already gone out to spend the night with Maiko, the whistleblower that they’re investigating. Shiba is bereft, sitting in the dark in his own apartment with no idea how he got there.

When Haruto finally arrives Shiba is acting like a jealous husband but when Haruto points it out Shiba refuses to admit it. Haruto reassures Shiba and tells him that his heart belongs only to him but I think Shiba has to keep in mind that Haruto is a con man.

Anyways, turns out that Maiko was blackmailing the R&D manager of the energy company, who was selling information to a rival company. Now why did they have to make the situation sound bigger than it was in the previous episode? Either way, that’s the end of that and now Shiba is handling a case involving a Japanese automaker. Winning the case is supposed to make Shiba’s name spread across New York since it’s managed by the law office’s New York branch but I don’t know about that. Shiba only has a week to work on the case and presented with a lot of files to go through.

Shiba says that a week is going to be enough but quickly realizes that is not the case. It also doesn’t help that he keeps replaying Haruto telling him that his heart belongs to him in his mind. It’s not helping with the focusing! Then there’s a whole scene where Kotaro walks in with an energy drink and I don’t know if it’s a product placement or not! Either way, Shiba resolves to not be in love because it’s getting in the way of his ultimate goal — becoming the ~Guardian of the Law~.

Haruto isn’t making it easy to forget him though, as he texts Shiba when he’ll back home, all the while talking to Shiba’s cacti, who is apparently suggesting dishes to cook for him like an acqua pazza. Which I honestly do want to try out myself!

Shiba ignores him and apparently spends days holed up in his office and I’ve only done that a few times and they’re not nice! Never doing that again! Shiba actually falls asleep from exhaustion and is only saved by Haruto coming by to the office bringing food with him.

But Haruto’s presence there just sends Shiba into a panic. Haruto being there makes him feel like his brain has “gone numb” and a poison has spread through his body. When is this going to happen for me? Anyways, Haruto feeds Shiba onigiri and maybe the acqua pazza is in that container too? Kinda really want to try it now. The food energizes him and he the “path to victory” becomes clear for him.

Or at least a partial path to victory, because he explains to Kotaro at their hangout that his current plan still isn’t enough to win the case. While Kotaro compliments him for this thoroughness, this homosexual is also maybe unintentionally undermining Shiba by telling him that an ambitious colleague of his before was waylaid by a relationship with a “terrible woman” that the unnamed colleague fell head over heels for. I call shade!

The (unintentional) undermining does work, as Shiba begins to question whether being in love with Haruto is doing him good or not. But before he can work it out in his head, he passes out from exhaustion and wakes up in his bed. He immediately want to get up and finish his job but wouldn’t you know it Haruto took care of it for him.

But how did he do that? Apparently he read all of the law books in Shiba’s home and understood them? Haruto says this is the most fun job he’s ever done and he wants to continue studying law and helping people. The revelation doesn’t go over well with Shiba, who brings up Haruto’s con man past and tells him to leave his place at once.

Now thrown out of the house, we find out that Haruto was just teasing Shiba at the start but eventually did fall in love with Shiba. Now thrown out of the house, Haruto has no choice but to go back where he came from, which is a criminal group all in suits? Maybe you just have a thing for suits, Haruto.
