Thame finally makes it to their movie date in the previous episode! Now what is in store for them in this episode?
At the start of this new episode, we find out that Thame and Po still didn’t get to watch that movie, which I have found out is a real movie and stars Bright Vachirawit of 2gether fame. Love that cross-promotion synergy or whatever!
Thame’s sorry that he hasn’t been able to keep his promise, while Po sees it differently, appreciating that Thame still showed up even when they had such a big problem to deal with since the company used the song that they were hoping to use for their comeback.
They have this back and forth about going back for the storyboard that Po left at the front of the cinemas and while Po says to just leave it behind, Thame goes back for it once Po leaves and guess who he runs into at the cinema? Jun. And I swear that thing with Po’s ear in the previous episode meant something more than just fan service. Jun has to have a thing for Po.
We don’t get to see what happens between Jun and Thame at the cinemas but we do get to see them back at the dorm, where the rest of Mars are understandably pissed off at their song being given to another artist. They also have just a week to come up with something new and that is truly testing suspension of disbelief. A new song with choreography and a music video in the space of a week? Maybe if you just post a dance practice? It worked out for SB19!
We then find out what happened between Thame and Jun at the movie theater, which is basically Jun blowing off Thame’s attempt to talk. The tension spills over to their current meeting, where Thame is questioning Jun’s suggestion to write a love song to compete with their own song. And of course the lyrics they’re throwing at each other already hint at the tension between them. And then when Po arrives and they both scramble to welcome him? Boys.
Po is there to film video of them praising Ice’s song, which is actually their song, and of course they’re not happy about it. Nano the maknae is cool about it though since Ice probably didn’t know the whole sordid backstory of how the song got to him. There’s a little misunderstanding there between Po and Thame because Po thinks he’s helping out Thame by letting him work while what Thame wants is to spend more time with him.
There’s tension between Po, Thame, and Jun, with added commentary from Pepper, Nano, and Dylan, and I got to say the show shines the most when it focuses on Mars and Po. It’s just more fun and something GMMTV has more experience doing than the whole convoluted music industry part of the show that comes off as straight from not-good fanfiction.
Seeing the interactions between the guys as they try to help Thame decide on which action to take with the Jun and Po situation, I feel like the better and more interesting storyline would be Po documenting how Mars got together in the first place. The interactions between the members are more interesting and compelling and believable and you can still have the company meddling if that’s something you really have to put in. You can still have all this conflict without the frankly eye-rolling Korea and “going global” thing that they had in the earlier episodes.
Back at the office, we find out that Jun got Po some snacks that he knows is his favorite since he stalked his IG Story and told him that he doesn’t do things halfheartedly and I really can’t blame Jun and Thame for both going after Po because that’s one scrumptious man.
Thame finally confronts Jun about Po while Jun is out shopping for food for Po and man I want someone to just bring me food. The two of them decide to have their conversation at the game arcade, which is also the same place they resolved their conflict when they were still trainees. The two of them raise valid points during their argument, with Jun even pointing out that Thame isn’t seeing Po’s full potential. And since they’re still men after all, they resolve their misunderstanding without actually apologizing to each other.
I guess as a sort of conciliatory gesture, it’s Jun that lets Po hear the new Mars song instead of Thame. It’s a dance track from what I could hear and something that Thame came up with in just a few days and okay, sure. The song is about going after what you want and at this moment both of them want Po. Thame says they should let Po decide on who he wants but I think he knows that he’s going to be the one picked and is just letting Jun have this one thing, especially since he knows that they’re still going to be friend whoever Po chooses. But it turns out Jun’s already talked to Po beforehand and he’s realized that Po likes Thame back and the editing is a little confusing to me but whatever.
Thame and Po finally meet up that night but Po is still too scared to tell Thame how he feels. They do tell this to each other indirectly and I have to admit at certain points I wanted to push their heads together and go “NOW KISS”. Still very cute though! And I gotta commend William here because he does well in this scene!
While they skirt around what they actually want to say, Thame finds out that the complimentary movie tickets he has have already expired and that they won’t be able to watch Bright’s movie. And then he hits Po with a doozy by saying that they should watch it in Po’s room since the movie is on streaming anyway. He literally is asking Po to Netflix and chill.
On the way to Po’s place Thame holds his hand and I gotta say this whole sequence is so cute? Really, really cute. I want to cradle them in my arms these are my babies. Thame tells Po he wants to do many things with him and BOY. The places my mind went. He then tells Po that he just has to buy something before they get to Po’s place and Po thinks Thame just bought a box of condoms? I think he did too! But watch it be something else other than condoms in the next episode.
