Ron Watches Study Group Episode 6

I’ll be the first to admit it — the past week was a little hectic for me and maybe I shouldn’t have snuck in that post about Study Group episode five when I’m clearly not in a receptive mood. But I’ve caught up on missed sleep and hopefully I am in a more pleasant mood today!

This episode starts with Han Wul in a pristine room and his main lackey No Reason who has been “upholding justice” by charging people who want him to beat up their bullies. But it’s not just money he’s asking from these kids, but information. This particular kid’s dad is a university professor who’s having an affair with a student, and I’m guessing Han Wul will be using this as leverage for whatever scheme he has in mind. BUT I GUESS NOT BECAUSE NO REASON SEND IT TO THE KID’S BULLY WHO NOW HAS LEVERAGE AGAINST THE KID. Just an agent of chaos.

Elsewhere in their region/province/city since we learned in the previous episode this isn’t Seoul, Ga Min and Se Hyun run into Ga Min’s mom, who isn’t happy that he broke curfew and asks him to prepare to transfer tomorrow. Looks like they had an agreement that Ga Min can only go to Yusung if he doesn’t break her rules.

In Ga Min’s bedroom, Se Hyun tries to reassure Ga Min that he’s staying in Yusung despite what his mother says, but Ga Min is making it clear that what his mom says, goes. We also find out that Ga Min’s mom and dad are divorced, which is maybe what he meant when he told Se Hyun that he understands the situation.

We then find out that Ga Min’s dad is some sort of genius and him pushing Ga Min as a young child is what caused the friction between his parents. As the two of them sleep beside each other, Se Hyun’s hand creep up Ga Min’s toned bicep and oh wait that was fanfiction that I expect to be written about this scene.

The next day at Yusung, Se Hyun is trying to lift up the gang’s spirits about Ga Min’s impending transfer because of all the bureaucracy surrounding it and how Ga Min’s grades aren’t good enough to get him in anywhere other than Yusung. There’s a hilarious bit where they try to make it look that Yusung isn’t a school for degenerates but Ga Min’s mom isn’t stupid enough to fall for it.

The study group chases after Ga Min and his mom as they head to see the real estate agent that found a house for them in Seoul, but they’re delayed by Yusung bullies, led by the guy that Ga Min punched from the fourth floor of the school. Of course he wants Ga Min to transfer so he can move up the rankings again. we do get a great fught scene from the other characters this time around without Ga Min being involved. Great to see the other actors have their time to shine!

Other than Lee Joon, the rest of the gang including Han Kyeong manages to catch up with Ga Min and his mom and we find out more about Han Kyeong’s backstory. I can’t seem to recall who Jung Hwa is but apparently she’s the connecting tissue between Han Kyeong and Ga Min’s mom and Hang Kyeong tries to uses this connection to convince Ga Min’s mom to let him stay.

However, that discussion is cut short because Han Wul has sent goons to go after Han Kyeong, all because of a report that she sent to the vice principal. I don’t know what that report is about because there’s no subtitles provided! But Han Kyeong explains it herself when No Reason catches up with them in the cafe — it’s a report to the school board about Han Wul.

As Han Kyeong is about to be attacked, Ga Min’s mom steps in and we find out that she kicks ass like her son as well. The gang pretty much kicks butt until No Reason pulls out a gun and while he doesn’t succeed in shooting Han Kyeong, he does manage to indirectly harm Ga Min’s mom when the blasted door handle hits her on the head. I don’t know if she dies because the show doesn’t immediately show it, but it does enrage him enough to directly go for Han Wul at the top of the school. We then find out that his mom’s alive but in the hospital. Yay!

While he doesn’t succeed at getting to Han Wul himself, he does get to face off with his three bodyguards, who kick his ass at the start but once he’s got his emotions in check, the fight turns to his favor. He rips off a guy’s earring! I wish I could articulate the fights better but the best I can say is that it looks great!

Once he dispatches the bodyguards, Ga Min doesn’t hesitate and heads to the school auditorium? gymnasium? where he punches Han Wul in the face. There’s just four episodes left so we’re heading to the finale, I guess!
