Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 Episode 7

This is a little late because I had work to do today but I’m not going to be delaying this to tomorrow. Let’s watch it now!

Hormona Lisa bid goodbye to the show in the previous episode and Kori King can’t even lie about how happy she is about it. Why did she dislike Hormona so much?

Meanwhile, Lana is shook about everything that happened previously, because she got a dressing down from Ru and Law Roach. Raven and Raja too if you include Fashion Photo Ruview! She’s resolved to do better in future challenges, though!

Arrietty, on the other hand, is having no crisis of confidence since she just won the Ball challenge after almost being sent home in episode five. Crystal, despite being in the top consistently, is frustrated by her lack of challenge wins. If I were her, I’d take note of Lana’s fate and not tempt the Drag Race gods too much.

In the confessionals, Sam is definitely not being a diplomatic pageant queen and is saying that Jewels is overpraising Lana’s lip sync skills. To be fair to Sam, I thought both Hormona and Lana should have been sent home last week! Kori is also of the opinion that the girls are gassing themselves too much and might just find themselves eliminated in the coming weeks.

The next day, we find out that Hormona has left her confessional bob in the Werk Room and Kori just can’t resist making a barb about it in her confessional. It’s stiff competition, she says! We also find out that this week’s Maxi Challenge is the Snatch Game, which Suzie Toot declares is what she is here to do. Usually I’d say this means she’ll be in the bottom but Suzie is the kind of queen that does good in the Snatch Game so she might just snag another win! Less enthused about the prospect of Snatch Game is Arrietty, who was sent to the bottom on the RDR Live comedy challenge.

The queens start talking about who they’ll be on Snatch Game and Onya’s pick of Eddie Murphy troubles me. Queens who pick already funny people don’t usually fare well on Snatch Game so we might just see Onya lip sync for her life this time around.

Acacia is doing Trisha Paytas and Crystal correctly points out that when Sugar did on season fifteen it wasn’t exactly well-received, but Acacia thinks that she can pull out a funny Trisha Paytas for the Snatch Game this week. Suzie is doing Ellen Greene from Little Shop of Horrors and while I don’t know her, Jinkx Monsoon was in an off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors so this might be a positive thing for Suzie. She’s really confident about her chances and the way production is emphasizing it in the footage kinda makes me think that she’s going to be humbled in this episode.

Not feeling very confident going into the Snatch Game is Lydia Butthole Collins, who was sent to the bottom of episode five because of her subpar Golden Girls impression. She’s hoping to get some feedback during Ru’s walkthrough, which in this episode includes an appearance by RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars winner Alyssa Edwards.

Check out the photos I took during Eva Le Queen’s viewing party below!

Anyways! During the walkthrough, Lexi says she’ll be doing Gilbert Gottfried and…well I never liked the guy, I’m sorry! Lydia is doing David Lynch, from the looks of it, because Alyssa and Ru are pushing her towards it so I’m guessing she is at least safe this episode. Arrietty is playing Cupid and…well, maybe Arrietty is going to lip sync again!

Sam Star is leaning heavily on her pageant experience for her Snatch Game character, while Kori — after being read by Ru for her choice of footwear — is going to be doing Big Ang, which Pearl has done before in season seven. Hope this works out for Kori like it did for Pearl! Meanwhile, Ru is trying to steer Onya towards Glodean White but Onya is sticking to her choice of Eddie Murphy. Lastly, Lana is doing Rosa Parks and…okay.

The Snatch Game starts and Lexi crashes and burns from the very beginning. Couldn’t even get one joke out! Lana is also, once again, in the danger zone as her sole joke ends up being told by Ru right from the start.

Onya, on the other hand, starts out strong with the Eddie Murphy impression and I can’t help but be reminded of Katya talking about constellations.

Onya looks even better because she’s followed by Arrietty’s un-funny Cupid character and Lydia’s struggling David Lynch one. Jewels’ Miss Bigfeett is…okay, I guess? It’s not unfunny but I don’t know what to think of it right out the gate. Crystal Envy’s Nicole Richie is probably going to land her in the bottom while Kori King’s Big Ang is okay, I guess. Let’s see how things progress!

Now I only have a passing knowledge of Trisha Paytas, but Acacia’s version of her is definitely funnier than Sugar’s back in season 15. Lana’s Rosa Parks is definitely going to land her in the bottom because she is not parrying with Ru at all. While I didn’t necessarily laugh at Onya’s response to the Trixie Motel question, she does get a laugh out of Ru and manages to parry with the follow-up questions so she is at least safe this round. Suzie, on the other hand, is definitely getting the humbling edit because her Ellen Greene is not being received well at all. I’m not familiar with the person either so I didn’t find it funny either!

But that shouldn’t be an excuse! I have no idea who Kim Gravel is but I found that cow milking joke funny! Not laugh out loud funny but I did crack a smile! I also cracked a smile for the Miss Bigfeet pedicure joke and…that’s it, I guess? Jesus Christ this should have resulted in a Lalaparuza.

Back in the Werk Room, Suzie is feeling that drag delusion a little bit because she really thinks she might be in the top this episode and even sneaks in a little jab at Onya while she’s at it. Sam thinks Suzie was disappointing in Snatch Game and to her credit, she goes right over to Suzie and tells it to her face.

Suzie says that her performance is going to be appreciated by Ellen Greene fans, but the thing is, other queens have done obscure characters before and have still been funny. Before Jinkx’s season five Snatch Game, I only knew of Little Edie because of a mention in a Rufus Wainwright song but not only did Jinkx’s performance make me laugh, it also made me look into Little Edie more. Not so much with Suzie’s Ellen Greene!

The runway category this week is Nailed It and I gotta say, that Iron Maiden look on Suzie Toot is spectacular. I also liked Sam Star’s outfit and the syringe nails and of course Arrietty is going to deliver on the runway. I also liked Onya’s outfit, although I don’t think it’s as strong as Suzie’s, Sam’s, or Arrietty’s.

Acacia, Suzie, Kori, and Lydia are the safe queens and Suzie is not happy. Honestly, she would have been in the bottom for me if it weren’t for that spectacular outfit. Left on the stage are Onya, Lexi, Sam, Lana, Crystal, Arrietty, and Jewels. Lexi is up first for critiques and…okay. I get the it’s so bad it’s good conversation but I feel like the editing for the show should have supported these critiques? Because it wasn’t as evident, to be honest.

Sam Star gets the “too polished” critique which…okay. Her being in the bottom previously wasn’t enough of a crunchy and vulnerable moment? Lana, Crystal, and Arrietty are definitely in the bottom two and from the way Onya got praised by Quinta I’m betting she’s getting her second win this episode.

And Onya does win! And to Suzie’s credit, she does cheer for Onya’s win, as can be clearly seen in the footage. Now the two of them are the only ones with two wins. Sam and Jewels are both safe, leaving Lana, Crystal, and Arrietty in the bottom. Arrietty is declared safe and she looks shook. I kinda felt bad for her when she still looked dazed even when she was already safely in the back.

Lana and Crystal lip sync to Selena Gomez’ “Hands to Myself” and while I think Lana kinda won it with that slow split that wig of her flying off kind of took a but of the sparkle of that split away. Also, maybe this song just isn’t good for a lip sync? I don’t know, the performances the two put in just seemed so lackluster.
