The past week was Hope On The Stage ticketing in my country and unfortunately, I wasn’t able to secure any tickets by myself. So I’m doing the next best thing and watching his documentary on Disney+ instead.
First off, I haven’t watched a lot of music documentaries of contemporary artists, so I don’t know how this stacks up against them. But I immediately like how this one shows just a few minutes in that Hobi’s Lollapalooza performance really is a group effort, even if he’s performing there not as part of his group, BTS. They don’t show the whole discussion, but the fact that they’re even letting us see the discussion at all is something that I like and appreciate.
At the same time, I also love the insight this shows us when it comes to Hobi’s creative process, how quickly he comes up with the next steps in his artistic journey, and how he immerses himself in it, sometime to the detriment of his health.
Another thing I appreciate about this documentary is how we get an even closer look at how BTS live their lives and interact with each other. I know that it seems like they already share a lot with us, but if you look at their contents as BTS they’re still very smart about sharing personal things about themselves, which is a good thing! But that carefulness about sharing personal stuff makes documentaries like this one feel even more special because you really feel like you’re being let in on something close to their heart. And yes I know that’s what music/artist documentaries should do, okay. But it’s just that some artists are too in the public eye that the documentary feels kinda empty. Also just let me be in my feels!
And I know these clips circulated back when the documentary first came out but I’m just so endeared that Hobi’s mom is down to fatten up the boys if that’s what they want. Just head on over to the house and she’ll cook for them! I’m so happy that they have a good relationship with their parents and can go back to them if they need it.
Maybe because they’ve been gone for two years now but seeing the members show up in parts of the documentary has me screaming their name. I thought I was cool about their time in the military but seeing them here makes me realize I do miss them.
Another highlight of the documentary for me is Lollapalooza, especially since we get to see all the blood, sweat, and tears that Hobi put into preparing for it. This documentary really shows you how meticulous he was about the whole performance and how much it stressed him out.
Watch his whole performance below!
Also did somebody say Blood Sweat & Tears?
