It’s been a crazy work week for me, you guys, and I haven’t been able to do anything else but serve the capitalist gods. But now I finally have time! Let’s catch up on things!
The previous episode saw Onya take home her second win and Crystal Envy go home after losing to Lana in the lip sync. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but like a lot of the lip syncs this season, I think both of them should have gone home, but oh well.
Crystal going home has shook the girls because it was her first time in the bottom and as Jewels points out, nobody is ever safe in the competition. But her departure does make things easier for the other queens so the queens are at least happy about that. This is also the second time in a row that Lana has declared that things are going to be different for her moving forward. We’ll have to wait and see about that!
Suzie continues to be disappointed about not winning Snatch Game but continues to be confident about her chances moving forward, telling the other queens that she just gave them another week to “breathe”. Just like Lana, we’ll have to see about that!
The next day, Kori and Lydia are definitely not hiding the showmance and from what I’ve seen on social media, they aren’t hiding their off-screen romance either! Are they going to be the sole Drag Race romance that’s going to survive?
Ru finally enters the Werk Room and tells them that it’s going to be the Rusical episode this week, with “The Wicked Wiz of Oz”. I can already tell that Suzie is going to once again declare her coming win. And there she goes, saying that she’s been doing musical theater for over a decade now. Let’s see if she gets another face crack moment this episode.
It’s time to pick roles and right from the top, Suzie, Acacia, and Sam both want to perform as Kansas Dorothy. However, Sam is quickly convinced by Lexi Love that Kansas Dorothy is just her and she’s already gotten the note that she needs to loosen up so she ends up taking the Wicked Witch role, which is always a winner. Suzie and Acacia are the ones left fighting for the role and Acacia is not backing down and with the group voting for Acacia, it’s Acacia who wins out in the end.
That isn’t the only drama we get from the casting process as Jewels and Kori are now battling over the Good Witch role. It quickly devolves into a shouting match that the other queens manage to stop by deciding on a vote, with Jewels being the group’s preferred Good Witch. “Riggory!” Kori screams. But that “you can’t buy comedy” jab from Jewels? Delicious. Even Kori thinks so!
The queens start recording for the Rusical and Kori’s critiques is that she’s “interesting” and maybe she’s going to be in the bottom today? And the fact that she wanted a bigger role? Ooof. I think she’s actually luckier that she got the Flying Monkey role.
Suzie and Onya, on the other hand, are fabulous. Suzie is gearing up and clearly recognizing that Onya is the one that she has to go up against if she wants to win it all in the end. Sam also does great in her rehearsal and she’ll probably get a top placement again because Michelle pointed out that this is a perfect role for her to loosen up.
Acacia is up next and…oh no. I do think it’s the nerves because I might be the only one who liked her talent show performance. I didn’t think her performance there was a winning one, but I didn’t think it was a bottom one either. But this performance here, if it carries on to the actual show, might just get her another bottom placement.
During the choreography rehearsal, Jewels isn’t giving and so is Onya, surprisingly. Although this could just be a misdirect from the production and they want us to think Onya does badly but she actually doesn’t.
In the Werk Room during the day of the Rusical, Acacia feels good about the role she’s got and so does Onya and I sure do hope that things go well for both of them. Sam also gets the chance to tell her musical theater story and how being in “Little Mermaid” as Ursula was such a mind-expanding role for her.
Arrietty also gets to tell her story about being bulimic and anorexic and being bullied because of her weight. Drag gave her the confidence to accept who she is and according to her, it’s what stopped her from being bulimic. Her story prompts Acacia to share her own story about having cystic fibrosis and how she’s always been aware that she’s living on time that isn’t promised.
The Rusical starts and I actually loved the number that Lexi, Lana, and Arrietty did! It made me emotional. Sam’s performance is one I also liked, while Kori was clearly outshined by Lydia. Onya does a great performance as well but it does not help Acacia’s cause that she goes after Onya because she definitely got outshone.
The runway theme is Parasols and Sam is definitely the standout. I also liked Kori’s look because it referenced the Rusical and Onya’s yellow look as well. Lana’s black look was also something I thought was gorgeous.
Arrietty, Lana, Lexi, and Lydia are safe this week. Suzie and Jewels get positive critiques while Sam Star gets the longed-for masikip comment. Iba talaga kapag masikip! From the critiques, it looks like it’s going to be Kori and Acacia in the bottom.
Sam wins the Rusical! And I think unlike the Snatch Game, Suzie would be correct if she feels great about her performance. But I think Sam’s good performance coupled with her beautiful outfit was what gave her that edge to win.
It is indeed Acacia and Kori in the bottom two and unfortunately for Acacia, Kori totally outdances her. But what is it with the unglued wigs? This is the second time that a wig has come off during the lip sync! Either way, Kori secures the win and sends Acacia packing.
