It’s the final episode and I’m catching it as it gets uploaded on Netflix! Let’s go!
I think it was very clear from the post about the last episode that I am not a fan of where the show has taken itself. The journey’s been convoluted and frustrating in parts but let’s see if it manages to tie it all up together in the end.
So…Mars and Po are thinking of how to get to Thame despite all of the restrictions the company has in place. Po thinks the best way to do it is to replace the documentary they plan to show after Thame’s solo, which they’re going to do with Mick’s help. There’s also something about taking control of the stage that Dylan suggests but it’s not shown to the viewers at the moment.
The concert stars and I wish they just made this a showcase of the guys from Lykn because this show is partly to market them anyway and they’re fun to listen to anyway. And the scene is a concert! Perfectly logical to just let them perform. I really didn’t think more than one crowd shot was needed.
Stream on Spotify too!
They’re fun and entertaining to watch! I wouldn’t have minded if most of the show was just them performing! That said, when the “documentary” was finally shown — that’s one short-ass doc — I did feel a little something-something. It also helped a lot that William was acting in that scene. Those teary eyes!
Thame goes down the stage where he’s met by Po, while the rest of the guys distract the staff by running into the crowd. That will definitely do the trick because I still remember Jungkook jumping into the Paris crowd for the one disabled ARMY.
I can’t fully explain why I don’t like this Mick redemption arc either. I would say it just feels out of left field but then I start thinking am I just not media literate? Were there clues peppered around and I just didn’t get it? So I’m just going to say the vibes just feel off with this redemption arc. Anyways, the guys manage to reunite and they sing a new song that I really like! It’s not on their Spotify or YouTube though, although it may just be in Thai and I can’t read it.
After the concert, Pemika confront them and the gist of it is that they are no longer part of the company and they should pay back the company. But now they’re free agents. I can’t believe how stupid this is. I just feel like this could have been done better as a trainee story? And then they refuse to debut because they see what the company is about. I just can’t see how the company can grow to be as big as it is in-universe and then fuck up a deal that probably involves lots and lots of money? If it were a smaller company, maybe, but that’s not the way Oner is set up in the story.
I also rolled my eyes at Baifern realizing that idols don’t owe fans their lovelife and then asking Po to pass on the message to Pepper that she just wants him to be happy. You’re not the fandom president! How the fuck will that make things better for him or stop other fans from being assholes?
I know that the show is trying to make a point that we should celebrate and love each other even for our small success or even if what we are isn’t what people call successful which is cool but I feel like that point could have been better delivered. For me, the show has just been a journey of frustrating ups and downs. They could have just done the tried and tested pop star falls for an ordinary person trope. It’s a trope because it works! And if you’re skilled enough you can push that trope to its limits and make it fresh for viewers!
I also did not like at all how they’re making it seem like Pemika is okay with all of this. If all she wanted was to just be rid of them in the first place then what was the whole point of going through everything we did in this show? All of this is like background for a better story where Thame is a struggling pop star trying to achieve success with new Mars and discovering that he can find success at his own pace once he gets to know Po. I’m just saying! Everything that has happened would have been great sources of angst for Thame pushing and pushing for success and Po is like…daddy chill.
