Ron Watches Devil May Cry Episode 3

At the end of the previous episode, Dante found himself in a bind as Mary has successfully trapped him for the government. What’s going to happen to him now?

This episode starts with a flashback episode featuring a child who’s obviously Mary. It looks like she’s always fantasized about being a demon hunter ever since she was a kid, but what she didn’t count on was actually getting attacked by a demon. I fully expected it was going to be a Batman situation where she gets orphaned but instead she ends up with a father who ends up obsessing about demons instead. At the end of the scene it looks like her family is still intact but I don’t know if that remains the same until the end of the series or even the episode.

Either way, it’s enough background to explain why she’s got a chip on her shoulder when it comes to demons. In the present day, the show lays down the breadcrumbs for the potential heel turn of the government as the scientists talks about the scientific studies that can be conducted on Dante’s necklace.

But it’s not like Dante is going anywhere because aside from being in a truck equipped to contain demons, Mary injected him with a bomb that will explode if he goes beyond a one-mile radius. While he’s trapped in there we get the government heel turn quicker than I expected as the vice president asks Dante to work for them instead.

However, before Dante can even consider that offer, the convoy they’re in is attacked by the demon bunny, who brings along some huge demons for the team to battle. The vice president is asked to go into hiding without knowing that one of his security detail is a demon in disguise.

Credit where it’s due, I thought the show would draw out the necklace storyline but the demon bunny gets both pieces in this episode and now needs another final piece. After escaping from his shackles, Dante gives chance and it looks like the demon bunny is goading him to let the inner demon out. Unfortunately — or fortunately, depending on whose side you’re on — Mary’s bomb in Dante’s neck stops this from happening.
