Ron Watches Devil May Cry Episode 4

We saw part of Dante’s head get blown off in the previous episode, so really there’s nowhere else Dante’s life is going to other than up, right?

We start in the present as Mary’s team deals with the aftermath of the demon bunny ambush. They’ve never encountered demons as powerful as the ones they faced in this ambush, so what does that mean when the wall separating the Earth from hell goes down? But that’s something that they’ll have to think about some other time as Mary has placed a tracker on the amulet and they’re off to follow it. However, Mary is unaware of the snakes in her team, especially the shapeshifting demon that she has now armed.

At this point, I have to say that Mary does swear a lot? I’m not a prude at all but it just feels like it’s someone trying to be edgy? But I haven’t played all the games so maybe she really is just like that.

This time around it’s Dante’s childhood we get to revisit and we see that he and Vergil have always had a contentious relationship, even as prepubescent kids. That’s all we get for the moment, though, as Dante finally wakes up in what I assume is Air Force…Two? I don’t know what they call the vice president’s plane in the US. He’s a captive along with the vice president, who is definitely some sort of religious zealot.

Meanwhile, Mary and her team have walked into a…residential complex? It looks lik it’s going to be a Dredd situation where they’re ging to fight the residents.

The residents don’t even get the chance to get their licks on Mary’s team because two of the demons they fought in the previous episode decimates the team, leaving Mary by herself. The shapeshifting demon didn’t even try anything yet!

Over at Air Force Two, the demon bunny is trying to make Dante accept the fact that he’s a son of Sparda but Dante is still in denial, despite his entire existence being all the evidence he needs. I do like the demon bunny’s motivations though. Sparda gets to be celebrated as a hero on Earth because of what he did while the rest of the demons are trapped in hell with a tyrant.

Mary isn’t having the best time over at the residential complex as she just got sprayed with what I assume is a hallucinogenic. She sees the bodies of her dead teammates and is almost taken out by the big winged demon she fought in the previous episode but is sheltered by a demon family who she immediately threatens with a gun. Sure you’ve got angst when it comes to demons but these people sheltered you!

Dante isn’t faring any better on Air Force Two as the wind and fire demons are using his traumatic childhood against them. Dante’s gone from hitting them with a motorcycle to now not landing any punches at all. He gets his butt kicked and is almost killed if it weren’t for the fact that the Devil Trigger finally kicks in.

Back at the residential complex, we find out that not all demons are the same. The demon family who sheltered her are regular denizens of hell and just want a better life and maybe this is the fault of the adaptation or maybe she’s just written this way even in the game but I’m starting to find Mary unlikeable. Or maybe it’s because I don’t have the full background on her yet. Either way, I hope they manage to change my mind when it comes to her.
