Back at it again and this time I’m sorta on time! We got the entry of a bunch of rambunctious guests in the previous episode, so let’s see how that changes the dynamic at the B&B!
This is how the rambunctious guys change the dynamic — the guys head to the gym for some ~pumping~. Jin also throws own the gauntlet by asking the rest of the guys to see who can climb up the five-meter rope the highest and the former MMA fighter almost reaches the top! Kian tries it out for himself and…well, did any of us really expect him to scoot up that rope?
The rest of the rambunctious guys try to do it to no avail so one of them asks Jin if he can do it as well and of course he can. He gets the second-highest height, only beaten by the former MMA fighter. I mean come on now.
From rope-climbing, the displays of manliness move to jujitsu. The MMA fighter demonstrates a chokehold on one of the rambunctious guys and vice versa and then Jin volunteers himself, which leads to the guys saying it would be an honor to be choked out by Jin. As to choking Jin…well, let’s ask Jonathan what happened.
After the grappling, the boys decide to drink some beer and talk about themselves, with the prevailing worry between them being unemployment. And while I wasn’t unemployed at 27 like they are, I have been unemployed and it’s fun up to a point. And then you start worrying about finances and having to survive in capitalism and you enter the job market again.
We also find out that the former MMA fighter is a North Korean defector and it still amazes me that people are able to escape from North Korea at all. It also explains why he’s so shy around everybody else. He got beaten up in a military inspection camp in North Korea, for crying out loud!
The next day, the former MMA fighter heads to Dokdo while the unemployed guys stay on the B&B and enjoy the view. They have a nice morning with the staff before heading off to explore the island, while Jin sets his foot down and tells Kian and Ye-Eun that they’re here to work and not to have fun.
The B&B is finally pulled out of the port and is anchored further out into the sea and the staff and the guests are definitely feeling the sea. Some of the guests are stumbling as the B&B rocks because of the waves and it eventually leads to Kian feeling seasick inside his own creation. You’re the one who thought this up, dude!
The people in the B&B eventually have to be…evacuated? Kian and Ye-Eun are on the motorboat while Jin and the guests are on the banana boat that is supposed to be the B&B’s “bus”. Jin says he’s never been on a banana boat before but he’s a lying liar who lies.
Once they get to the port, Kian is still nauseous but manages to push through it as they head to a restaurant while the four unemployed rambunctious guys travel around the island. We also get treated to Jin’s vocals while they’re in the car and if you want to hear more of that silver voice, check out his album Happy on Spotify!
His next album, Echo, is also coming out this May! Watch out for it!
After their lunch, the trio head to the market to buy some seafood for dinner and what I thought was a stall was actually a restaurant? Anyways, they ask permission to take a nap there before they finally get the assorted platter of seafood that they take back to the B&B. Kian isn’t going though because he’s heading to the hospital to get treated for something. Does seasickness get severe enough to result in hospitalization? But apparently it’s to redress the wound he sustained in episode four and it doesn’t take long before he reunites with Jin and Ye-Eun,
Meanwhile, the former MMA fighter is enjoying his time in Dokdo and I gotta say, this show is really putting in that Dokdo propaganda hours. I don’t know enough to know the nuances of the geopolitics that surround those islands but the show is definitely implanting in the minds of non-Koreans watching that those islands are part of Korea’s territory.
While the guests are out, the rest of the staff clean up the B&B and it couldn’t have come at a better time as two new guests are arriving and they sound just as rambunctious, except they’re women. The B&B also gets a kayak and Jin gets it in his head to transport the former MMA fighter in this kayak all the way to the B&B, which is a 20-minute journey. At least he’s not backing down from what he said!
Once everybody’s back on the B&B, Jin leads the guest on a celebratory slide into the ~pool~, which he already did with the rambunctious jobless guys in the previous episode. Kian is finishing the staff mural as all of this is happening and I’ve really grown to like his art. He even gifted Jin a custom piece! It’s also hilarious how he misspelled ARMY and when one of the guests pointed it out he thanked them for saving him from getting killed.
