I know, I know, I haven’t been doing one of these for a bit because life has been busy. But I’m getting back to it! In this week’s edition, we have Renren Galeno, the Severino Reyes Medal, New Philippine Speculative Fiction 2, and the Juggernaut book launch.

Renren Galeno made some noise last year when her work for the Washington Post, “Searching for Maura”, ended up as a finalist in the 2024 Pulitzer Prize. Now she’s added another recognition to her list as Forbes has included her in its “30 Under 30 Asia” list. Congratulations Renren!

Winners of this year’s Severino Reyes Medal, as well as does included in the Honors List, will be recognized this Wednesday, May 21, at the National Library of the Philippines Auditorium. This year’s winners are Nakikisilong for Storybook, Sa Iisang Batya for Picture Book, and OHA: A story told in one eternal second for Young Adult Literature.

Call for submissions for New Philippine Speculative Fiction 2

Are you a speculative fiction author looking to be part of a popular antholgy series? Vibal Group’s Paradox imprint is looking for submissions to include in the New Philippines Speculative Fiction 2 anthology edited by Dean and Nikki Alfar. Deadline for submissions is until September 30, 2025. Check out the Facebook post above for more details.

Juggernaut book launch

If you’re at Eastwood on the 21st, why not check out the book launch for UST Publishing House’s Juggernaut? It’s going to be held at Greyhound Cafe, 7:00 p.m. There will also be performances by Leandro Reyes; King Llanza; Tin Lao; Kid Orit; Mikael de Lara Co; Alfonso Manalastas; Simone Sales; and Jasmine Gardosi.
