Ghost of a Feeling is part of Vibal Publishing’s Vida New Adult imprint, of which Mina V. Esguerra is editor-at-large. Ghost of a Feeling joins other Vibal acquisitons like Well Played, Blooming Love, and the Interim Goddess of Love trilogy.
Russia accuses publishers of distributing ‘LGBT propaganda’
Concerning news out of Russia as it appears three employees from a local publishing house have been accused of disseminating “LGBT propaganda”, a criminal act in Russia.
Publishers Weekly reports that Eksmo, Russia’s largest publisher that account for approximately 20 percent of the market, has been subjected to a crackdown from the government that involved the arrest and interrogation of 11 current and former employees and the house arrest of the three accused of disseminating “LGBT propaganda”.
The employees who were arrested and interrogated were either current or former workers for Popcorn Books, a publishing house known for queer and YA fiction and acquired by Eksmo in 2023. Popcorn Books was already in the Russian government’s crosshairs after the success of Summer in a Pioneer Tie, which was a TikTok sensation in 2021 and actually lead to Vladimir Putin signing the anti-LGBT propaganda law in 2022./
Pioneer Summer, the book’s English translation, is coming out in hardcoveron Tuesday, June 3.
Work Ink Progress exhibit
If you don’t know Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan, you probably have seen most of their work without knowing it’s theirs. A lot of the group’s members are actually illustrators for some of the most popular local children’s books out there.
If you want to see more of their work, check out “Work Ink Progress”, an exhibit that is an “ode to the process” of these illustrators. The opening reception is on June 6, 6 p.m. at the Gravity Art Space in Quezon City and admission is free. The exhibit runs until July 4.
SOX Writers Workshop call for applicants
The Cotabato Literary Circle, with the support of the National Book Development Board and Aklat Alamid, will be holding the 2025 SOX Writers Workshop from July 14 to 17. Anyone interested to take part can submit their work in the links provided in the Facebook post above. Deadline for applications is on June 20.
