Ron Watches Ironheart Episode 3

Not gonna lie, I thought things were going to get better by episode two but…it didn’t. But I am going to commit to finishing this just because. Let’s go.

So, the gang gets their money and they have no problem having fun with it, as we see in the opening scene of this episode. The gang members all have an idea what to do with their share but things immediately turn serious when Clown picks the vault where Parker keeps his red hood and tries it on for herself. John does not like it and it almost leads to a confrontation until Parker breaks it up.

They’ve got another target, another CEO who sounds like one of those tech bros that think they’re innovating and ~disrupting~ but are really just assholes and it says a lot about the show that I should be angrier at these CEOs but I’m not. I think it’s because they’re not the real enemies? But if the CEOs’ influence is so big, it just seems so pointless to just have them be a mini-boss, essentially speaking.

Back at home, Riri has a heart-to-heart with Xavier about Natalie and I think that’s one of the weaknesses of this show. I don’t think it’s focused enough on what it wants to say. Does it want to tell a story about grief and mourning? Does it want to tell a story about late stage capitalism? There are show that can tackle multiple things at once, but the way it looks now, Ironheart isn’t one of those shows.

Anyways, Riri gets a visit from Joe the White Boy and so far seeing the Black folks look at this White Boy has been the funniest thing I’ve seen on the show. Joe is there to ~coerce~ Riri into working with him on all these engineering ideas he’s developed since they met in the previous episode.

And it’s not just Joe who’s got Riri in a tight spot because even the AI Natalie is ~coercing~ Riri to literally just hang out with her. Riri relents, and they hang out the next day and AI Natalie spends the day being her conscience. I also do not understand what they’re trying to do with the AI storyline?

We then get back to Joe, who as it turns out is Obadiah Stane’s son. And I know this is Marvel and is a comic book adaptation, but I just can’t get over how quickly Riri gets to do all the tech stuff, especially when they keep insisting that she has no money at all to do anything? Or maybe I’m only doubting it because the show really didn’t start out strong? I feel like if they’d gotten the first episode right, I would have been more open to them stretching the truth a little bit.

The attack on Heirlum starts and can I say, it was actually tense and exciting! The alarm being triggered because of Riri’s carelessness and then Parker using his hood? Then how everything goes wrong and Riri’s actions actual result in a death and the possible overturning of Joe’s life? I’m finally invested! I just wish they didn’t take so long to really hit their groove.
