The previous episode saw Ginger Minj, Daya Betty, and Cynthia Lee Fontaine emerge as the winners of the final bracket. Let’s see how things change now that the merge is happening!
The nine semi-finalists are brought back and we don’t even get to see them strut the runway because Ru is naming them like they’re running out of time. Although Mistress and Ginger do stand out because this was apparently filmed after both their weight loss journeys.
The first surprise is that all their previous points have now been wiped off the board, and they’re all starting from scratch. The second surprise is that starting this episode, queens will be sent home packing. No more non-eliminations! Finally, the third surprise is that this episode’s Maxi Challenge is going to be the Snatch Game. Let’s see if this season’s Snatch Game is any good, or at least as good as the one on Drag Race Philippines Season 3!
Back at the Werk Room, the queens separate into groups based on their brackets, especially Mistress’ bracket, because we all saw the shenanigans that happened there. And that group is definitely committed to continuing shenanigans now that the merge has happened, with Mistress trying to stir shit between Ginger and Aja. And it also looks like there’s underlying tension between Ginger and Mistress. Oh lordie what is this episode going to look like.
As a two-time Snatch Game winner, Ginger is feeling the pressure of doing even better than her previous performances on the show. She’s doing Reba McEntire this time around, which she describes as a choice that could get her another win or send her home. Daya, on the other hand, was part of the infamous Season 14 Snatch Game so she feels anything she puts out will be better than that. She’s doing Jane Lynch this time around, which is…a choice? She’s funny, but I feel like the comedy with her Glee character was a mix of the writing and her acting. Can Daya come up with those zingers on the fly? Cynthia is doing Dracula and just like Aja, I just said “Girl, what?”
Lydia, Irene, and Bosco are all praying that Ginger flops this season’s Snatch Game, while Mistress is sure Ginger is going to flop. And she’s going to ensure that happens by messing with Ginger, but Ginger doesn’t look like she’ll take the bait. At least that’s what it looks like at the start.
We get to hear about the rest of the queens’ characters during Ru’s walkthrough, but as Ru himself said, it’s not so much the audiences’ knowledge of the character but how funny the queen can make that character. With that in mind, I just let the queens’ choices flow through me and will just wait until they’re actually in action before I pass any judgment. One thing that does stand out to me is Irene, who seems intent on sabotaging herself despite Ru actually loving her Snatch Game choice. Is Irene the one going home?
The Snatch Game starts and at least from the introductions it looks like it’s Mistress who’s going to be in trouble? Jorgeous gives her an assist, though, so it looks like it’s Cynthia who is going to be sent packing this episode. Yet another English as a Second Language queen sent home because of the Snatch Game.
I shouldn’t have been surprised, but Ginger’s Reba is the first one that actually gets a real laugh out of me with that quick “I am jacking off all trades” quip. Bosco is the other queen that gets a laugh out of me with that Rock Hudson joke because I guess my humor leans toward the scatological?
Back in the Werk Room, Mistress says out loud that she thinks Cynthia is going to be in the bottom this episode, which I agree with! But I also agree with Irene’s opinion that maybe Mistress is a little too confident and that her Snatch Game had more misses than it had hits.
Aja, on the other hand, is having a breakdown brought about by anxieties in and out of the competition. Completely understandable anxieties, by the way! But the competition doesn’t care about that and Aja might just sabotage her own self out of that competition.
This week’s runway theme is Tira Mi Suit and I am expecting greatness! Bosco is up first and she sets a high standard right out of the gate. Jorgeous is up next and it is also a serve! Daya, on the other hand? Well, that was something! However, it is immediately overshadowed by Cynthia’s wardrobe malfunction, which just seals the deal for Cynthia. She’s going to be the first one to go home.
Bosco, Daya, and Irene are named the safe queens, and then we get to hear the judges’ critiques. And it’s pretty clear from the critiques that it’s going to be either Cynthia, Lydia, or Mistress in the bottom and ~gasp~ Jorgeous winning the damn thing. They loved Ginger’s Snatch Game, but her outfit might have just messed up her chance at a win!
The queens return and Ginger wins Snatch Game. Deserved! It’s Cynthia and Mistress in the bottom and the lip sync is to Aretha Franklin and you already know from the opening line that Mistress is taking the win. I do love that this is a lip sync that didn’t need any splits or dips or whatever! Cynthia is sent home and we inch closer to the finale.
