The previous episode saw Riri encounter one last stumbling block before the season finale. Will it trip her up as she goes into her final confrontation or will she be able to power through it? Let’s go!
We start this episode in the past, during that first job that Parker botched. We find out that he almost got caught by his father’s security, but was able to escape thanks to a ~mysterious man~ who professes to be his fan. We then get to see a deal struck between the two. The ~mysterious man~ will give Parker the tools to become the king he wishes to be, in exchange for something Parker “won’t even miss.”
Back at Parker’s father’s house, Parker and Ezekiel aren’t exactly getting along. Parker’s got everything he wants, but what price has he paid in return? The only person who’s with him is only there because he can control his body. Meanwhile, Riri has already paid a price for the magic she’s used, but is unwilling to recognize this and is headed to Parker to i guess pay another price to get Natalie back. A Natalie that wasn’t even real! Face your grief!
Over at Parker’s home base, his benefactor finally speaks to him, telling him that not only does he have other ~clients~, he’s also held up his part of the bargain since Parker is rich now. But Parker wants more and the ~benefactor~ tells him he’ll do that only if Parker can keep on to what he’s already got.
Down at the diner part of Parker’s base, Riri and Ezekiel get into it and sort of come to a stalemate? Riri helps Ezekiel get free from Parker’s control, but Ezekiel is at least honest enough to say that he still feels some type of way about the way Riri treated him.
We then get to the climactic battle between Parker and Riri and…it’s pretty anti-climactic. But I do understand that this has a television show budget and it’s already using a lot of CGI, so here’s where they cut corners. It’s still an okay fight, just doesn’t have the oomph that you expect for a fight in the finale.
With that fight over, now it’s Riri’s turn to encounter the ~benefactor~. He delivers his pitch and laughs at Riri misidentifying him as Dormammu, when he is, in fact, Mephisto. Riri says that doesn’t mean anything to her and I scream in my room “THIS IS WHY STEM MAJORS NEED TO TAKE HUMANITIES SUBJECTS.”
And then, BECAUSE SHE IS A STEM MAJOR THAT DID NOT TAKE HUMANITIES SUBJECTS, she accepts Mephisto’s offer. She’s fucked. And now Parker’s working with Zelma? Oh, Riri is fucked.
