Because of timezone, I can’t really watch this as it airs because it’s just way too late for my decrepit body, so I’ll just have to watch it a day later. But at least this post won’t be as late as the previous episode!
As we all saw in the previous episode, none of the queens went home because they want to send Magnetica home first and the queens are understandably happy about it, especially Bertha. We also find out that Misty picked Magnetica, but she did originally plan to have her Bebe moment and not reveal her pick at all.
I don’t usually comment about the judges but this week’s extra special guest judge is freaking Marion Cotillard? What the fuck?
The next day in the Werk Room, Mami makes sur eto establish her dominance by making Bertha put the pin on her, like a servant. I don’t remember exactly where Mami Watta is from but it’s gotta be somewhere France colonized so, yes, torment that colonizer.
Nicky enters the Werk Room and tells everyone that this episode, someone really, really is going home and they have to pick that person amongst themselves. But first, they have to get through this week’s mini challenge, which involves having to fight Paloma American Gladiators-style off a plank. Paloma’s looking good!

Also, Paloma’s serious about the game. Literally going for the queen’s legs! She keeps on winning until we get to Kam and Punani and I gotta say this mini challege was really entertaining. Too bad they don’t get anything out of it, not even a challenge advantage!
We then learn about this week’s Maxi Challenge, which is the Super Ball. The three categories are XX Wings, a Day to Night look, and the third look…is going to be a team look! The queens are divided into two teams of five, with Punani and Bertha being the team leaders. Finally, a mini challenge win that amounts to something!
The teams are Bertha, Misty, Magentica, Soa, and Moon, while Punani picked Elips, Kam Hugh, Piche, and Mami. Bertha’s team is Maison M, which really does sound very X-Men as Soa points out, while Punani’s team is Like A Monday. Well. It’s a name!
The queens start planning their collections and I don’t think it was a smart idea for Maison M to immediately tell their competitors what the base fabric of their collection is going to be and that they need somethign from Like A Monday. I know nothing about making clothes but I do know that in a competition, you don’t immediately show your hands to your competitors. You’re just setting yourself up for disaster!
However, there is a little bit of a schism within Like A Monday. Piche is very strategic, while Kam and Elips just want to keep the peace. Just like a lot of reality show storylines, it might just be the team itself that will cause its downfall, rather than pressure from their competitors.
And for a while there, it really looked that it might just be internal conflict that rips Like A Monday apart, because Mami and Piche do not want to share fabrics but it looks like the rest of the team are more amenable to it. But alls well that ends well because it turns out that Like A Monday does need a fabric that Maison M got so they end up exchanging anyway.
While preparing their outfits, the queens have a nice discussion about the dichotomy between their selves and their drag personas and I gotta say, they have better Werk Room conversations than the main show? But I do understand that the queens in the US have to circle around particular topics because of the situation there right now, so maybe I’m being unfair.
We get to the Main Stage and Marion Cotillard has that face that just screams “I am a fabulous Frenchwoman oozing with ennui”. She’s bored with the whole thing but she’s fabulous. I love it.
Up first on the runway is Piche with a spectacular Pegasus outfit. I did not expect that. Which kinda make me go meh at Mami Watta’s look. Don’t get me wrong, Mami is beautiful, but it’s another Victoria’s Secret angel outfit. I’ve seen that in a bajillion Drag Race runways.
La Big Bertha is up next and it’s a complete 180 from Mami’s outfit because she’s out here on the Main Stage looking like a gay chicken. Then, she’s followed by Magnetica who stands out because she’s the first one of the bunch to interpret wings as insect wings. Magnetica is then followed by Punani, who also went with an insect interpretation and I can already imagine the production rubbing their hands in glee when they put these two right after each other. Punani’s interpretation of “wings” is a lot more abstract than Magnetica’s, thought, so I don’t know how that’s going to land with the judges. Probably positively, because the production wants Magnetica out. And they didn’t even wait for the critiques to prove me right because Marion Cotillard apparently collects dead butterflies and she thinks the butterflies are more beautiful with more holes in their wings, like Punani’s outfit. They really do want Magnetica out.
Misty and Moon are up next and between the two of them, I thought Moon’s outfit looked better and wasn’t as stiff as Misty’s? Sorry, Misty’s dad, I know you made the wings, but it just isn’t working for me. Soa de Muse’s outfit reminds me of a Kerrigan prototype, if that makes sense? Like Kerrigan in the Zerg egg before she became full on Queen of Blades.
Meanwhile, Kam has 3D-printed fairy wings but the way that it’s obvious that she’s having a difficult time wearing it kinda detracted from the effect. She was tilted to one side when she was walking! Elips comes out after her and I think she’s the one that came out with the best insect-themed costume, really cutting off Magnetica by the legs. Sorry, I really feel like the production is out to get Magentica!
Next, we have a day to night look and Bertha…does not make a good impression as the first one on the runway. I didn’t like it! Misty’s was…okay, but Magnetica’s really caught attention just because the contract between the two outfits is just so stark. Moon’s look was too simple for my taste, especially since she came right after Magnetica. I don’t think it was a matter of obscure references, but more a lack of oomph.
Soa’s look is…very Season 1, let’s say that! Kam’s look is…well, you went from pink to pink. Yes, they’re two different looks, but the pink kinda flattens everything. Mami’s look…well, the second one was better? I could also say the same about Punani’s look but what Punani has going for her is that she made hers, while Mami’s picked hers.
Elips look isn’t a look if you view the two of them separately, but the smoothness of the transition from one to the other? She has got to be safe, at least. AND THEN PICHE COMES IN ON A BIKE. She transforms from a delivery driver to a stunning queen and just like Elips, while I’m not necessarily a fan of the gown it revealed into, that transition was smooth.
We finally get to the House looks and I gotta say, the Maison M looks are cohesive! And they all used the same fabric! How much of that fabric did Like A Monday have? But Like A Monday shows up with a collection from the same green fabric they got from Maison M and how many yards of fabric did these queens have? Either way, I think all their looks are great so I’m guessing it’s going to come down to their first two looks.
Like A Monday wins because they want to send Magnetica home. Moon, Elips, Soa de Muse, Kam Hugh, Magnetica, and Piche are the top and bottom queens, and Magnetica is just marked for elimination, I just know it.
Magnetica gets praise for her first two looks, but it’s her Maison M that has brought her down to the bottom. Soa fangirls over Marion and is commended for expressing her suffering, so I think she’s going to be safe. Moon gets critiqued for her obscure references — Rocky Horror and Grease? — while it’s Elips and Kam Hugh who are named the top queens. The top bottom queens are Magnetica and Soa and BOY, they really do not want Magnetica to stick around. Neither Kam or Elips are going to vote Soa out, I just know it.
Elips and Kam lip sync to Edith Piaf and I think Kam doesn’t get Edith Piaf at all. I think Elips is going to win this lip sync AND I’M RIGHT. And like I’ve been saying all along, it’s Magnetica they send home.
