Okay guys, I’ve been having a really busy week and I’m sorry this is late, but at least it’s not as late as the previous episode. I’m trying my best, you guys!
We saw Punani get sent home in the previous episode by Mami Watta, and Bertha says it was a particularly intense elimination. Mami says this was the hardest elimination that she’s had to make — since she’s done it twice now — and Kam agrees that it comes down to the tiniest details now.
Piche, on the other hand, picked a different lip stick, and is very sad to see Punani go. Kam is cool with the decision, especially after Piche explains that while she would have felt guilty sending Kam home, she just wouldn’t be able to live with herself if it was Punani she sent home.
Before we get to the opening billboard of the show, we get Kam saying that she’s going to blow it out of the water this episode, which just tells me that she’ll be the one sent packing this time around.
The next day, Mami is understandably showing off her two badges, and says that she feels like she’s been able to do what she wanted since the season started. With a declaration like that, she might just get humbled in this episode because that is just how television works.
Nicky walks and tells the queens that the next challenge is the makeover, and Bertha explains how iconic it is for the audience of this show that hasn’t watched all the other franchises, I guess. But the makeover subjects this time around are actual French celebs. I don’t know how famous they really are in France, though, but since the show was able to pull Marion freaking Cotillard I’m guessing they’re actual big names and not like the guest judges of earlier U.S. Drag Race seasons.
Kam gets to pair up the people for this challenge, which is maybe bad news for Piche, as she just told Kam earlier in the episode that if she had won the lip synch, it would be Kam going home. But Kam is not a shady queen and the queens all seem to be happy with who they’re paired with. Let’s see if it stays that way!
From the Werk Room conversations, we don’t really get to see who may or may not land in the bottom this week. Mami Watta is happy to show off her badges, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that production is out to humble her. But maybe I should just wait a little before I say anything because one of the queens might fuck up on camera.
And that girl just might be Misty Phoenix because Bertha has to help her shave the celeb she’s partnered with. You’re both men! Shaving seems like a pretty straightforward thing you wouldn’t need help with unless you’re a literal child? Or am I being ungracious here? Maybe there’s some hidden difficulty when it comes to shaving? I don’t know!
We also find out that Bertha received literal death threats after her time in season one, with somebody even sending photos of his parents’ home, prompting him to file a police report. Jesus Christ, you’re really all sending death threats to Bertha, of all people? We also learn that Mami has received death threats as well, which I kinda understand because she’s just a gold mine for bigots. She’s Black and a Muslim, two things that bigots just ~love~. Piche then tells her own story, and it’s equally heartbreaking as the stories of Bertha and Mami.
The runway starts and sorry to say, it really does look like Misty is going to be in the bottom. She’s first to walk on the runway and even without seeing the other queens’ outfits, hers already looks too simple and honestly? Lazy. Especially when compared to Kam’s looks, who came out right after Misty.
Piche’s look is…meh, but the judges are laughing their heads off. I don’t know if they’re laughing with Piche or at Piche, though. Bertha’s look probably has some significane to French pop culture, but it was honestly just meh for me as well. The outfits that I really liked after theirs are Moon and maybe Elips? But more on Moon.
Once the judging starts it really seems like most of them are on an equal footing? I think the only negative critiques we got was Bertha repeating a character and Moon repeating her makeup. Which, fine, I guess is a valid critique. But for that to put her in the bottom? Give me a break.
Kam and Elips are the ones lip syncing and honestly? It was very white. You guys know what I mean. Elips wins the lip sync and sends Bertha home. Huh. I thought she’d send Moon home since their drag has the most overlap but I guess Elips really was trying to be fair!
