Ron Watches Rearrange the Series Episode 2

I thought the first episode of this show was okay, BUT I’ve said that for most of the Thai BL I’ve watched. The real test is if they’re going to stick the landing, and I think only Century of Love has done that for me? Let’s see if Rearrange can succeed as well.

Like we saw at the end of the previous episode, Win just flat out walks to Nut and tells him he likes his nut him, despite technically not having met each other in this rebooted timeline. When Nut doesn’t respond well — because of course, he won’t, they haven’t met yet — Win salvages the situation by saying he must have gotten the wrong person. I mean, what else could he say?

Back at home, Win is trying to explain his unusual behavior by saying…he’s working on an assignment. Win, not really quick on his feet when it comes to explanations! But we do get a Back to the Future reference from his dad, which I guess is more for people from my generation than for the main audience for this show. Oh my god, am I “father” years old now?

The next day, back at the music studio where he works, Win is waiting for Nut to show up, just like he did in the original timeline. When Nut finally shows up, win is ~real smooth~ and asks him if he wants to ~come inside and have some fun~. Hey, would have worked on me. But Nut is not having it and runs away, just like the last time. He also chases him on the bike like the last time, but unlike the last time, Nut doesn’t stick around to put a band-aid on him.

The next day, Win is on the lookout for Nut once more and as an aside, I really like the vibes of wherever in Thailand they’re shooting this. It feels like a province that’s just developed enough to not have the stresses of mega city life, if that makes sense? ANYWAYS, looks like Nut dropped his wallet the day before and now Win has an excuse to meet him again.

How easy is that going to be? We don’t know yet, but judging from Nut’s dad — who we see more of this time around — it might be more challenging than Win expects. Nut’s dad is strict, and the show hasn’t shown us why he acts the way he does just yet.

Or maybe the opposite’s going to happen, because Nut is still thinking about Win’s unexpected confession from days ago. He starts writing in his journal and I am reminded that my own journal writing has fallen by the wayside as time has passed. But way back in high school and college? Thick notebooks of journaling. I keep trying to get back to it now that I’m an eldritch being and it’s not been going well.

Back in school, Win is asked by Bew (I think she’s his sister? She was also in the first episode) if he wants to go watch a band, but he says he has other plans and we also get to see him using slang that isn’t being used yet for this particular time period. I forgot about that! Now that I think of it, not a lot of time travel shows take this into account.

Win finally gives Nut his wallet back, and then Nut asks him if Win wants his balls meatballs, which Win of course agrees to. What they end up eating isn’t meatballs though. As a street food eater those are most definitely fishballs. Or maybe thye’re chickenballs. Anyways, enough of that detour, it looks like Win may have found an in! Nut is curious if Win really does like his music and invites him to the same concert Bew invited Win to. Of course, since he is a homosexual, Win immediately agrees.

They run into Bew at the concert, but in the grand tradition of shows like this one, Win just bulldozes over any questions she has and he and Nut go ahead and watch the concert. Or at least, Nut is watching the concert because Win is much more focused on him. The homosexuality is off the charts! But suddenly there’s a riot? Nut gets hit on the head with a club? What? The sudden riot does give Win and Nut the opportunity to get their hands on each other to look at their wounds, and when Win asks if Nut’s dad is going to be okay with him going him with a scartch on his head, Nut says his dad is really kind.

Cut to Nut’s dad smashing his guitar. Nut asks his dad why he’s such a dick and the camera focuses on a family portrait on the wall. Did Nut’s dad lose a kid or something? Is Nut the second child? And for some reason, the father reminds me of the dad from Love of Siam? AND YOU KNOW WHAT, HE IS THE DAD FROM LOVE OF SIAM. Love of Siam. I watched that in the cinemas MORE THAN A DECADE AGO!

The screaming in the cinema when this happened.

Unfortunately, with the smashed gutiar and all, Nut can’t be a part of Win’s band now. But Win tries to win him over by reminding him of the Star of Band competition, the very same competition where we find out that he’s dying during their “first” life. Win also tells Nut exactly what to say to get Nut’s dad to agree, and also changes the bandage on his forehead so we get some close proximity going on. Nut is convinced to join the band again and at first I think they resuse the footage from the first episode about adding new band members, but then I notice the band-aid on Nut’s forehead and I have to give props to the show for that.

We then see how they get their bassist, which we don’t really see during the first episode. But since Win’s already messed with the timeline, I’m guessing this is different from the way it first happened. Turns out that Mew and the bassist had a little argument back during the concery, which inadvertently started the riot that ended with Nut getting hit on the head. Not gonna lie, I was a little impressed by this!
