Ateneo University Press’ Buwan ng Wika Sale, the Tiny Bookshop game, the UP Press at MIBF, and the National Book Awards in this week’s edition
The Ateneo University Press’ Buwan ng Wika sale
If you’re a little short on funds, but still want to buy some books, you can maybe check out the Ateneo University Press’ Buwang ng Wika sale, happening from August 26 to August 30. There’s a 20 percent discount for books in Tagalog and 15 percent off for other works.
‘Tiny Bookshop’ video game
I’m a ~multi-faceted~ creature with many interests, and one of those is video games. And as Publishers Weekly reports, this new video game is catching the eyes of actual booksellers because it “focuses less on the realities of business owning and more on the vibes of it, to great success.”
It’s available on Steam for $20, so if anybody’s interested, you can get it there!
The University of the Philippines Press at the MIBF
As any bookworm in Manila knows, September is Manila International Book Fair season. The publishers will have their events lined up with author signings and forums like this one organized by the University of the Philippines press. Check out their Facebook page for additional schedules, like the author signing with Butch Dalisay, Dorian Merina, and a lot more!
The National Book Awards opens nominations
If you’re looking to get your book some accolades, the National Book Development Board and the Filipino Critics Circle are now accepting nominations for the 43rd National Book Awards. Nominations are open until September 7, and entries should be published in 2024 and “have significance, soundness of content, quality of craft, readability, grammar, copy editing, structure of thought and ideas, and style.”
The National Book Awards are now also accepting nominations for books in Hiligaynon (Ilonggo) and Kinaray-a published in the Philippines in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
The last National Book Awards nominated book I read was The Secret of Derek Guerrero.
