Ron Watches Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale Episode 4

Yet another international queen was sent home in the previous episode, as we saw Viñas Deluxe send Ivory Glaze packing. Is this season going to just be international queens being sent home? Let’s find out in this new episode!

Back in the Werk Room, Viñas is definitely feeling the weight of being the frontrunner. All eyes are on her now, since she’s the first of the queens to get two badges. Kitty is also feeling pretty good right now because she’s managed to stay past episode three. And not just stay, even land at the top!

We also find out that Kitty picked Arizona to go home, and I gotta say, pretty understandable! All the Pinay queens have picked the international queens to go home, and I feel like if I were one of the international queens, I’d stick to my ~group~, so to speak. Khianna herself set the lines during episode two.

Having said that, Viñas does have a point that the international queens should just come out and say the truth rather than going the ~we were close~ route because did you really get that close in a matter of days? Yuhua also points out that the queens thought they would be judging by track record, and Kitty choosing to pick who she picked just upsets the pH balance of the room.

In the confessionals, Arizona looks like she’s plotting revenge, but let’s see what the episode has in store. I do want to note that the show had a hilarious scene before the cut to the opening title, showing the Pinay queens ~fighting~.

The next day in the Werk Room, Arizona says that she’d send Bernie home if it came to it, especially if Bernie has been doing badly in the competition. I mean, it’s easy to say that now, but let’s see what happens when you’re in the actual situation. Kitty stands firm that she’ll always pick family and friends over the competition, which I feel is easier and more honest.

We then get the RuMail for this episode and it’s going to be a Crazy Rich Asians Rusical. Which, okay, is more understandable for this season than last season’s Wicked Rusical. I just wanted a more Filipino Rusical for season three, okay?

But before they start with the Rusical, the queens have to play a mini challenge where they have to guess which Pit Crew members face a ball lands on. It’s all sponsored by Bingo Plus, which in itself is a very sketchy business here in the Philippines, so let’s quickly move past this. And to be fair, the game does move pretty quickly, with Siam and Suki ending up the top two and Siam winning the mini game. She wins money and the first pick of roles for the Rusical. She also gets to pick a queen who’ll pick whatever roles left after everyone else has chosen theirs, so let’s see if she chooses a Filipino queen or an international queen.

Suki reads the roles up for grabs and to be fair, they do sound fun. But let’s see if that’s true for the actual Rusical, because a character description is miles away from the actual thing. The queens seem happy about it though, so maybe we can be optimistic?

Siam chooses Liu Vuitong, a bitchy character that Suki thinks is way too different from Siam’s actual personality, but if Siam wants a challenge, then go ahead. But as Trixie Mattel has pointed out before, Drag Race is not the place to experiment. It’s where you come in knowing your strengths and play those up as much as possible. Siam also chooses to give Viñas the disadvantage of having to picl the leftover role, which I think is a logical decision, seeing that Viñas is the current frontrunner.

The role selection goes pretty smoothly for the most part, until it’s Yuhua who has to pick. She loses to Suki Doll when it comes to the mom role, and then finally gets the Dr. Tammy Tak role after she gets picked over Arizona.

Arizona, however, isn’t going to settle for the tech Asian role and tries to sweet talk Kitty into switching roles. Unfortunately, Kitty lets her guilt get the better of her and gives up the chef role. I guess another international queen is going home!

The rehearsals start, and it looks like Bernie is a little lost, without an idea for her character. She may be the one to join Kitty in the bottom, because Kitty herself isn’t doing so hot during the rehearsals. And am I understanding this correctly that they’re kinda making their own choreo? Or does Teacher Cecille just have a more collaborative approach? Siam also looks like she may be in the bottom this episode, because Khianna herself says in her confessional that she’s worried about Siam.

During the day of the Rusical, we get to hear about Brigiding’s post-Drag Race Philippines career, and we find out that she got turned away by American immigration a few years ago. She had a hard tim regaining her confidence after her season, and I would have been more sad about it if it weren’t for Viñas making hilarious comments in her confessional.

The Rusical starts and I don’t know how politically correct that whole segment was with the queens speaking other Asian languages, but I did giggle a little. I also felt a little eh about how they wrote Doja Park’s character because how are you including a K-pop star character and then use Madonna’s “Material Girl” for her music. Couldn’t use “Crazy” by Le Sserafim? That’s even got a version for ballroom!

Stream the Vogue version on Spotify as well!

As for the other roles…well, it’s good that they’re all Asians because it’s getting a little stereotype-y! And…well, I’ve said previously that I’m not really a fan of the Drag Race Philippines Rusicals. This Rusical hasn’t really changed that opinion!

We finally get to the runway looks and Brigiding is challenging right out of the gate with an outfit that looks like a statue. Kinda like one of those Doctor Who angels. I don’t really watch the show, but I’ve seen memes! Other runway looks I liked were those of Khianna and Suki.

Brigiding, Kitty Space, Bernie, Arizona, Siam, and Viñas are the top and bottom queens, which means that there’s a chance that one or two Filipina queens will be the bottom two this week. Exciting, actually! Gotta shake the Filipina queens up!

Brigiding gets praises for her runway and performance, while Kitty gets read mostly for her performance, with Mama Pao asking for a little more variety from Kitty. Bernie also gets read for both her look and performance, so I guess that’s another Pinay queen in the bottom. Brigiding and Arizona are the top two this week, while Bernie and Kitty Space are the bottom two queens. Bye Kitty! I knew she’d be going home the moment she gave her role away to Arizona.

Brigiding and Arizona lip sync to “Cartoon Heroes” by Aqua and…well, it happens. Not my fave, I’ll be honest! Arizona wins, and it’s no surprise that she picks Kitty.
