Ron Watches Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale Episode 5

Surprise, surprise, another international queen was sent home in the previous episode. Is the trend going to continue this episode? Let’s find out!

Sorry, but seeing Arizona struggling to read Kitty Space’s French mirror message was funny to me. But we get over that quickly enough, as Siam feels like the Filipino queens are only going to pick the international queens if push comes to shove. And I don’t blame her for feeling that, because it does look that way to the audience. It doesn’t help that Brigiding also chose Kitty’s lipstick as well.

Siam brings up this topic, which leads to Arizona explaining her choices. Siam doesn’t believe it, while Yuhua thinks that the international queens just aren’t doing well, and the Filipina queens aren’t intentionally ganging up on them. But all of these are said in the confessionals. Khianna says what she says out loud and to Bernie’s face, which is that she thought Kitty should have been space and that Bernie isn’t performing the way she did during her first season.

In the Werk Room the next day, the question of how the pick who gets sent home is still being asked, with Suki saying she’s an Excel Asian and that they should be keeping track of scores and the like. We don’t get further discussion on that, though, because the Filipino queens are fighting, specifically Bernie and Khianna. Bernie, understandably, isn’t happy that Khianna said Kitty should have been safe, while Khianna reveals that Bernie said she doesn’t see Khianna in the top four either. They’re all arguing in Filipino, so the international queens are probably feeling lost.

The argument is ended by Mama Pao finally arriving and sharing the mini challenge for this week — a spider fight. Literally, like the ones I used to watch back when I was in elementary school. But rather than actual spiders, it’s the queens going up against each other for a little joust thing like they did with Drag Race France All Stars.

Like this!

The Filipino queens chanting while everything’s going down? Hilarious. The subtitles just don’t convey it well enough. Either way, it’s Khianna and Suki that make it to the finals, with Khianna winning the mini challenge.

We then find out that the Maxi Challenge for this week is the makeover, and the people they’re making over are OFWs, or Overseas Filipino Workers for those not in the know. BUT THERE’S A TWIST. The queens need to pair up and work on their assigned OFW as a duo. I’m guessing they’re going to be judged as pairs then? The pairs we get are Bernie and Arizona, Khianna and Siam, Brigiding and Suki and Viñas and Yuhua. Khianna also gets to assign the OFWs since she won the mini challenge. But another thing that Khianna’s won is to switch the pairings, so Yuhua ends up with Siam, and she ends up with Viñas. That leaves Brigiding and Sui as the only Filipino-International pair and that is really not going to help with the Filipinos versus everyone else perception.

As expected from a makeover episode, we get to hear the stories of the women that are going to be made over, and I do wish they got women from other countries as well and not just Filipinos, because Filipinos aren’t the only ones who have had to migrate for better opportunities. But I also understand that that may just make the budget balloon, so we have to make do with what we have.

We then get to the runway and Khianna and Viñas are up first with a Mariah look. Cute. But it immediately gets mogged — am I using that term right? — by Brigiding and Suki Doll’s Filipiniana. I thought that had more character. Arizona and Bernie come up with a Lavinia Arguelles look and…it’s just okay for me. It’s not hitting, sorry!

Yuhua and Siam’s look was okay from the neck down, but what the heck was happening from the neck up? I thought it looked messy. But, the judges were fine with it, because it’s Arizona and Bernie who end up in the bottom. A Filipino queen is definitely going home now!

Back in the Werk Room, Suki Doll is definitely the diplomat among all the queens, smoothing down any bad feelings the other queens may be feeling because of how everything went down. I wish she was able to showcase this during her Drag Race Canada season, but that show didn’t give her enough time.

We get to see Arizona sorta plead her case to Brigiding, but if there’s anything that convinced me that she was going to stay, it was the fact that she was still able to make a joke even with how dire her situation is. Production is going to want to keep her around to keep the energy up!

Suki and Brigiding lip sync to Stell’s “Room” and I kinda wish they brought a little more 80s Michael Jackson energy since that’s what the song’s vibe is? But then they make out and you know what? Everything is forgiven.

Brigiding is the winner of the lip sync, and she sends home…Bernie. Which really isn’t a surprise, but it wrecks Arizona. And it wrecks Bernie as well.
