Ron Watches Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale Episode 7

We’re getting closer and closer to the finale, as the queens continue to be whittled down. In the previous episode, we saw Yuhua send Siam Phusri packing. Who’s going home next?

Yuhua is pretty happy when they go back to the Werk Room, and I can’t blame her! She’s the first international queen to have a RuBadge, and I think this is actually her first ever win in Drag Race? I might be wrong, somebody correct me!

Brigiding and Viñas also reveal their lipsticks, and we find out that even if Yuhua hadn’t won, Siam still would have gone home. Viñas picking Siam wasn’t even a surprise, because the show literally showed her picking the damn lipstick.

But we don’t even get to the next day before the show drops a surprise on us: the Golden Balut. I’ll be honest and say that I don’t remember this from Drag Race Philippines season three, but a quick look back on the blog reminded me of it.

The next day, there’s the usual RuBadge count, and as it turns out, all of the queens have a badge except for Suki. Which either means Suki is winning the Lalaparuza this episode — yes, they mentioned this in the previous episode but I didn’t mention it in the post — or she’s going to be sent home badgeless.

The mini challenge this week is a twist on the reading challenge, as they have to ~read~ the other queens’ futures. I don’t know if this complication is really necessary, but let’s see how it turns out!

And…it’s not bad! I really liked Suki’s turn on the crystal ball, which is why it’s no surprise that she wins and gets the advantage for this week’s challenge. What the advantage is, isn’t explained immediately, but I’m sure it has to do with the Golden Balut.

And I’m wrong! Suki’s advantage is that she can block one queen from picking either a song or an opponent during the Lalaparuza, and the queen she chooses to block is Khianna, which really is the smart choice! Khianna is a fierce lip syncer and I wouldn’t give her any advantages either.

The first lip sync battle is between Suki and Yuhua, who will be lip syncing to Sasha Colby’s “Goddess”. It’s a great lip sync song, but I have to admit that I will constantly have Sasha’s own performance running through my head while the two of them perform it.

And, well, it doesn’t really work to the queens’ favor, because I found the lip sync really…meh. Sashas really nice about it, because she’s classy like that, and it is a hard song to lip sync to now that it’s not her doing it, but I really was underwhelmed. I expected more! Either way, Suki wins the lip sync and sends Yuhua to the Werk Room.

Up next is Brigiding, and she picks Viñas as her competition. Viñas picks RuPaul’s “Queendom” as their song and the performance we get is…great! Maybe Suki and Yuhua really just aren’t performance queens, especially when put beside the Pinay queens. When Viñas brought out the hair dryer? The two of them playing around with it? I was cackling. It’s Viñas who gets sent back to the Werk Room, although I much prefered her comedic approach to Brigiding’s.

Arizona and Khianna are up next, lip syncing to “Boom Boom Boom Boom” by the Vengaboys, and I know this is going to be great, because the two of them are memorable performers for entirely different reasons. Yuhua does make a good point from the Werk Room that this song is a fun, campy song, and Khianna was attacking it too seriously.

And then we get a three-way lip sync for the win between Suki, Brigiding, and Arizona, to “Queen” by Silvy. I’ll be honest, I don’t know the song! And…well, I guess there’s a reason why I don’t. I don’t know if this was the best choice for a lip sync song, but Brigiding really stood out for me. It really looked like she knew all the words! Mama Pao agrees and Brigiding emerges as the final winner. She now has two badges!

But the gaggier — GAGGIER? — part is that Yuhua, Viñas, and Khianna now have to plead their case to Brigiding as Brigiding gets the power of the Golden Balut. She gets to pick which of the two queens will have to lip sync for their life. And of the three of them, it’s Khianna that really impressed me because she literally went, no make me lip sync because I can beat whoever you put me up against.

Brigiding does the expected (honestly!) and makes Khianna and Yuhua go up against each other. She’s not going to send Viñas home, since the production is setting up a match-up betweent he two of them. Khianna and Yuhua are going to lip sync to a Lola Amour song, and in a twist that I never saw coming, Lola Amour is actually there to play the song live! This is exciting!

And…well, I don’t know if Lola Amour was actually playing live since Yuhua interacts with them and the music doesn’t stop, but it was still a novel enough lip sync for me. Gotta admit, Yuhua had an uphill battle here against Khianna, and when Khianna started ~squirting~? Yuhua’s fate was sealed.
