Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 7 Episode 1

I absolutely forgot that this was premiering, but at least I’m not days late! Let’s get into it!

After a tribute to The Vivienne, we get right into it with Catrin Feelings being the first queen to enter the Werk Room. She’s leaning heavily into her camp and comedy side, so let’s see if that’s a strategy that’s going to work out for her this season.

The next queen to enter is Tayris Mongardi, and she immediately makes me smile with that reference to that Jesy Nelson meme.

She describes herself as a drag powerhouse, which just means that the show is going to immediately humble her either by sending her home or putting her in the bottom. Tale as old as time. The fact that Tayris brings up the track record of the Brighton queens who have competed before doesn’t help her chances.

Sally™ enters and pays tribute to Gothy Kendoll, or at least I like to believe that’s what she was doing. RuPaul’s Drag Race UK hasn’t been kind to her type of drag, though, so let’s see how long see stays in the competition. She might just be Charity Kase’d.

Silllexa Diction is up next I am no fashion person by any stretch of the imagination, so I can’t explain what it is about her look that seems off to me. But she says she’s a seamstress so it’s probably just my uncultured non-fashion person eye that’s feeling this.

Pasty is up next and while I don’t think she’s winning any fashion awards soon, I do always appreciate queens who take the comedy route when it comes to their entrances. She’s the second comedy queen to enter.

Nyongbella is the second Black queen to enter the Werk Room and sorry to Tayris, but I think you’re going to lose to this queen. However, when she says it’s only her second year of doing drag? I immediately worry about her performance skills. Let’s see how she does with a little song and dance number, especially since she herself admits she’s not much of a singer or a dancer.

The next queen to enter the Werk Room is Paige Three, and I’m getting the Pamela Anderson thing she’s got going. Now I get she’s referencing Barb Wire with her outfit, because at first glance I was like…meh.

Elle Vosque is a “karaoke queen” from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and she gets a really awkward moment when she asks the queens if they know her, and it’s…tumbleweeds. Does this mean her storyline for the episode is a grand coming out or an early out?

Viola enters the Werk Room next and she absolutely steals Thorgy Thor’s violin schtick. And boy!Viola? I would have crushed on that white boy so bad. She does come off as a little cocky, so either she’s an early out or she wins the whole thing.

We then get Chai T Grande, the first Asian queen this season! Let’s hope she makes Pangina proud, because I don’t think Asian queens do well in Rupaul’s Drag Race UK.

The second Irish queen this season is Bonnie Ann Clyde from Dublin. While she’s not the only Irish queen, she’s the first queen from the Republic of Ireland to get on the show. Condragulations!

Bones is the next queen to enter, and quite frankly, she’s got the best entrance look so far. And the other queens recognize her as that girl. And she’s Krystal Versace’s…drag daughter? They’re related in some way. Anyways, we may have a finalist here!

Ru finally enters the Werk Room and I was unsure whether this was the first season to feature a cash prize, but since there wasn’t an over-the-top reaction you’d expect from the queens finally getting a cash prize, I guess they started last season!

The first Maxi Challenge is the Brit Gala, where they’re going to walk on the pink carpet in eleganza and then be interviewed by Very Important Queens, so I guess queens from the previous season. AND I’M WRONG. The queens are Baga Chipz, Plane Jane, Tessa Testicle, Angeria Paris Van Micheals, and MARINA SUMMERS! YAY MARINA!

Of course, they pair the Asians together, so Chai T. Grande is interviewed by Marina Summers. I wish she had a wittier response to Marina, but that outfit is a good enough look! I did expect something grander, but then again this is a regular season and not a Vs. the World one.

Sally™ has got a better outfit and better responses, so she is at least safe this episode. I thought Catrin’s outfit was okay, but Tessa just demolished her with that one question. I don’t think she recovered, even with the impromptu German.

Meanwhile, Silllexa Diction’s look for this challenge is definitely better than her entrance look, at least for me, but that interview was about her shits and it was the shits. They definitely weren’t laughing with her.

Tayris…oh Tayris. Again, this is coming from a non-fashion girlie, but the gown didn’t look like it fit her right? And that interview with Plane just wasn’t doing her any favors. It even felt combative at parts? Like Plane Jane and Dawn in Untucked.

Pasty is up next and I feel like its Marina who dropped the ball in that interview segment? She could have followed up on Pasty’s vision impairment, but I guess the instruction was to be funny and it’s kinda hard to pivot to a joke after that revelation.

I also found funny Bonnie Ann Clyde’s “Brown cow? Stunning!”, except it’s the judges who thought she was a cow, but it turns out she’s supposed to be a Dalmatian. I also thought she could volley well with Plane!

It’s Paige Three’s turn on the pink carpet and I like her look! Kinda reminds me of Nymphia Wind’s tie look. Unfortunately, Nyongbella is appearing in a Marie Antoinette look and Michelle has had it with Marie Antoinette.

And her interview with Tessa? Well. It was something. Viola’s got a similarly awkward interview, but at least her look was better than Nyongbella’s.

Bones has got a look, but that interview was pretty meh. Elle Vosque’s interview went better, I think, but her look wasn’t as good as Bones’. And that’s the end of the Maxi Challenge. I thought that was also going to be the runway, but it looks like they’re still going to do the by now traditional Queen of Your Hometown looks as well. If there was a Fashion Photo Ruview of this, it’d be like an hour.

Back in the Werk Room after the Maxi Challenge, it looks like the season-long storyline that’s being set up is the Big Names versus the Up and Comers, or kinda like the Khianna versus Versex storyline from Drag Race Philippines.

The next day in the Werk Room, we find out that Nyongbella spent part of her childhood in Cameroon, and since we’re finding out about her background, I fear that just means she’s going home. I am saying my goodbyes in advance.

The runway starts, and I think Bones had a great look to start the show. Nyongbella, on the other hand, I couldn’t understand whether the look was good or Nyongbella’s skin just perfectly pairs with gold color. Chai T. Grande…I don’t know. I feel like those would be two good separate looks, but I don’t think they pair well together. It looks too busy for me.

I wasn’t initially impressed by Viola’s outfit until she said she made it by herself on a freaking loom. Amazing work! I also liked Patsy’s look. Catrin, Paige, and Elle are named the top queens, while Nyongbella, Pasty, and Tayris are the bottom queens. And what I like about the critique for Tayris in particular is that Ru actually gave some technical advice on Tayris’ makeup? I feel like that’s a critique Tayris can actually do something about.

Then we find out about the lucky cow, which is the other queens voting on which one of the bottom three queens gets to stay. But what if they pick the one that doesn’t get put in the bottom two? We’ll find out later, I guess.

Elle Vosque wins the first challenge, while Nyongbella and Pasty are up for elimination. I don’t think either one of them do a good lip sync, but at least Nyongbella wasn’t falling apart. Nyongbella wins the lip sync, and Pasty is the lucky cow! No one goes home!
