Ron Watches Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale Episode 8

As all of you probably now by know, there was something wrong with Wowpresents+ during the premiere of this episode, and since I am an old fogey, I couldn’t stay awake long enough to catch the episode. And then the day after, work was a killer and I just could not catch up. But we’re doing it now!

After the previous episode, the only international queen left is Suki Doll. Will she make it all the way to the end, or is it going to be an all-Filipino final? Let’s find out!

Back in the Werk Room, the remaining queens express their love for Yuhua, who Khianna sent packing the previous episode. Khianna, in particular, was very grateful to Yuhua for giving her another chance in the competition. But after that, the five of them get to celebrate being the top five, with Suki getting an Alarma! out of it.

The next day in the Werk Room, Suki reveals that she felt a little miffed by Yuhua, because apparently Yuhua told her twice that she’s not a good performer. Well…let’s just say that neither her nor Yuhua did Sasha Colby’s “Goddess” any favors, how about that.

Suki, understandably, is not happy that she’s the only queen who still doesn’t have a RuBadge. This might be one of the last times that she can get a badge, so as Ru said, she better werk.

For the mini challenge, the queens need to ~photobomb~ Philippine tourist destinations and taking the photos is not BJ Pascula but Seven Barretto, who is also a snack! The queens get photographed and Brigiding is literally balls out for the mini challenge, but Khianna is the one who wins the mini challenge.

We then get told that the Maxi Challenge is Drag Con Slaysia, where the queens have to make a DIY Drag Con booth. Since Khianna won the mini challenge, she gets to take a minute out of another queen’s presentation, and she does it to Suki. On the one hand, come on, Suki doesn’t have any badges, give her a break. On the other hand, Suki seemed pretty confident about the Maxi Challenge, so maybe this isn’t going to affect her at all, even if it doesn’t sound like it when she confronts Khianna about it.

Khianna, on the other hand, doesn’t seem like she’s in the right headspace for the challenge. Viñas, normally calm and collected, also started to lose her chill, so to speak, seeing how quickly Suki was working on her booth. Arizona’s booth isn’t progressing as fast as Suki’s either, but she doesn’t seem as stressed as Khianna and Viñas.

To be fair, all the booths look great, or at least they were filmed great. As to how the queens interact with Precious and Sasha though? All of them were kinda awkward! Or maybe it’s just the way it was shot and edited? I wasn’t a fan of Brigiding’s interactions. Suki’s was a little less awkward, but it still felt off to me. I feel like it’s the way it was shot, and not the queens themselves. Precious and Sasha did their best to make it seem fun, though!

The runway theme this time around is Rubirth, which I take to mean as them remaking their older outfits and elevating it. While preparing for the runway, the queens reminisce about the Drag Cons they’ve attended, with Brigiding giving a special mention to Jiggly Caliente, thereby getting all the other queens to talk about her as well. Knowing that they were filming this season during and after Jiggly’s death? It adds a lot more weight to the queen’s recollections, because I can’t even begin to understand what they were feeling at the time.

The queens get to the runway, and can I just say I liked the old look of Brigiding’s outfit compared to what she came out on stage with? But maybe it looked better in person! All the other looks, I really liked! Although I didn’t really think Viñas original look needed elevating.

I agreed with the critiques, to be honest, and it’s pretty clear that it’s going to be Viñas and Khianna in the bottom. And since it’s going to be a lip sync for your life format, this is going to be fun to watch, because the two of them have different styles that I both love. It’s all going to come down to the song they’re going to perform to.

Suki Doll and Arizona Brandy are both the winners in this episode! And as pretty clearly telegraphed, it’s Viñas and Khianna at the bottom. The two of them will be lip-syncing to “Race Car” by Calista. I haven’t heard it, but I like that the production is really leaning into song by Filipino artists. That’s been one of my biggest critiques about Drag Race Philippines from the very beginning.

Unfortunately, Khianna’s great outfit literally gets in the way of her lip sync, as the little horsies that are part of her headpiece keep hitting her face. She also can do her trademark moves in the outfit she has on. It’s no surprise that it’s Khianna who gets sent home, and it’s pretty heartbreaking.
