See, this is the problem when you’re an oldie. You get sleepier way more easily, one little bump in your schedule means everything gets rearranged, you’re not as flexible physically and mentally.
Nobody went hom the previous episode, but that’s probably going to change now! Let’s get into it!
Back in the Werk Room after the non-elimination, Pasty and Nyongbella are understandably happy about the results. Pasty is also incredibly grateful to everyone who voted her as the Lucky Cow, who does not include Viola, apparently. Viola wanted her to go!
Nyongbella, however, gets a little kick in the butt because if she had lost that lip sync to Pasty, she would have been sent home because only three of the girls voted her as the Lucky Cow. But she’s pretty chill about it, even quoting Naomi Smalls and saying “Life’s not fair.”
Viola is definitely setting herself up as the villain of the season, not just in her confessionals, but right on the table in the Werk Room the next day. Cuts into Nyongbella’s time, talks about herself in a self-aggrandizing way that’s even too much for drag queens, and we’ve got queens in the confessional rolling their eyes. So this either means she’ll get sent home today or we’re going to see her all the way to the finale.
We then find out from Ru as she enters the Werk Room that the Lucky Cow was just for one episode. From here on out, if you get sent home, you get sent home. We then get Raven in for the mini challenge this week, which is a send-off of the shoe The Traitors, which has been the one trouncing Drag Race in the Emmys.
Basically, the queens vote for which queens they think fit the category the best, and Pasty gets “Most Distasteful”, Bones gets “Most Beautiful”, Viola gets “Most Painful”, Elle Vosque gets “Most Delightful”, while Pasty gets “Most Fateful”, which is for the queen who goes home next.
We then get told that the Maxi Challenge is a design challenge using leftover stuff from the past seasons of Rupaul’s Drag Race UK, and since Pasty got the “Most Fateful” title, she gets to assign which two gets which season. She assigns Nyongbella and Tayris to season 1, Bonnie and Elle get season 2, Sillexa and Bones get season 3, Catrin and Pasty get season 4, Chai and Sally get season 5, and season 6 goes to Viola and Paige.
Viola is still smarting from being voted “Most Distasteful” by Catrin, and while she’s saying it’s not psyching her out, she’s the one talking about it in her confessional. It really feels like she’s being set up for a humbling this episode.
Another queen that looks like she’s going to be in the bottom in this episode is Pasty, as she admits to not being good at sewing at all. And seeing as she’s already been in the bottom? Looks like her fate is sealed. Sorry, Pasty! Her fate is sealed even more so when she says the cursed “I want to challenge my self and prove them wrong” to Ru. As Trixie Mattel has said before, Drag Race is not the place to challenge yourself.
After the walkthrough — where Ru gives actually good advice, I think — Catrin and Viola finally get into it, after Viola helps out Elle after telling Ru that she’s not helping anyone out. And it is a tense encounter precisely because Viola isn’t shouting or screaming. I well-placed, nonchalant “Okay” really can be more devastating than getting screamed at.
But as it turns out, Viola isn’t as nonchalant as she pretends to be, because she does end up crying about being voted the pain in the ass among the group. I just feel like it would have been more of a gag if she just ran with the pain in the ass label, but you can’t help how you feel about things.
The runway starts and up first is Sillexa Diction, who…come out with a corset. At least she tries to save it by saying that this isn’t her best work. Bones’ work is deceptively simple, but I think it does give off more than just a bikini vibe? Maybe it’s the structure or the texture? It doesn’t feel like she just put on a bikini.
Elle Vosque’s look? I wish she was cinched more? I don’t think it gives her a good shape. Bonnie Ann Clyde’s look looks…fake? I don’t know how to explain it better, but it doesn’t look like it’s made from fabric? Which I guess is the challenge, but I’ve always thought that the skill in challenges like this one is the queen making it look like the unconventional materials weren’t unconventional.
Pasty’s look actually is okay, especially since I was expecting it to be a mess. Shame about her slipping on the runway as she entered, though. I feel like that’s what the production is going to use to justify her being in the bottom.
For all her talk, Viola’s outfit…was a disappointment, frankly. I thought it would be better than that! If she hadn’t talked herself up so much, maybe I would have been impressed, but she had me expecting too much from her.
Sillexa, Elle, Tayris, Nyongbella, Paige Three, and Chai are all safe. Pasty is definitely in the bottom and going home, I can feel it. As the critiques start, I really like that it does sound that the judges are being helpful this time? They kind of made my own feelings on Bonnie’s outfit clear to me? And I actually didn’t notice the flaws with Pasty’s outfit until Michelle pointed them out. And they were also right about their thoughts on Viola’s outfit.
Sally wins this week’s challenge, while Viola and Pasty are up for elimination. And with Pasty already being in the bottom before? It’s her that’s going home, for sure. Her fate is definitely sealed when her shoe comes off during the lip sync and rather than take the other shoe off, she puts the other shoe back on and it just looks awkward. A for effort, Pasty!
