Ron Watches Young Royals Season 3 Episode 6

It’s the finale! Not just of the season, but of the show! It has been a journey.

We saw Wilhelm finally explode and confront both his parents in the penultimate episode, and while that was a long time coming, Simon breaking up with him was something Wilhelm did not expect. Maybe it was a long time coming too, depending on who you ask, but I think Wilhelm definitely thought that an apology and his royal dick would have been enough to smooth things over.

At the start of the episode, Felice is asking if it really is over over between Wilhelm and Simon, since it never really does seem that way between the two of them. You can always trust the straight female best friend to clock you!

To be fair to Wilhelm, he does think that Simon is right to break up with him, and also brings up that he should be the one reckoning with his problems and not bring Simon along with him. I wish the little shits that study in Hillerska would have that epiphany too.

Over at Simon’s place, it doesn’t feel like he’s got a weight off his shoulders either. He may have broken up with Wilhelm, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t rather be with him still. But he can delay thinking about that for the meantime, as his and Sara’s father have left them the car to “discover the world”. Simon has become more cynical after everything that’s happened and thinks that maybe they shouldn’t have reconnected with their father again, but Sara thinks that Simon’s capacity to give people second chances is a good thing. More than two chances if they have that royal dick!

BUT YET ANOTHER HUGE THING HAPPENS THAT PUSHES EVERYTHING ASIDE. The School Inspectorate has made a decision about Hillerska, and that is it should stop coddling these rich fuckwits. The rich fuckwits who immediately turn on each other once the news breaks. All the white girls turn on Felice, and that must have felt so ~good~ for her. I’m really sorry, maybe this isn’t what the makers of the show intended, but I just don’t feel any empathy for these crying richies! White crying richies! I don’t feel bad about not feeling any empathy for them especially when Nisse and Vincent want to throw a party and act like they’re the ones getting the short end of the stick.

In the library, Wilhelm and Simon run into each other, and obviously there’s awkwardness there. They just broke up! Wilhelm tries to tell Simon something, but he’s interrupted from doing so by another one of the Hillerska students asking if they’re going to make it to the party later tonight. Simon looks like he won’t be going, but Felice manages to convince Wilhelm to go since there’s the looming threat of his ascencion as king Wilhelm has to contend with. Why not party before you get locked up in your glamorous prison?

Over in the “poor” part of town, it looks like Simon may just go to the part as well, as he’s unsure if he’s had closure when it comes to Wilhelm. His friends aren’t against it either, and even take him and Sara to the party. Is this going to cause trouble?

However, it’s not Simon that Wilhelm first ~confronts~ at the party. Purely by coincidence, Wilhelm and August end up in the same room, and the two of them finally learn to apologize to one another, and it’s a wonderful bit of acting from both Edvin Ryding and Malte Gårdinger.

Felice and Sara also get to patch things up. Felice admits that she told the School Inspectorate everything, while Sara admits that she does have feelings for August, but that they don’t compare to what she feels for Felice, Simon, and her own self. And she really proves that when August encounters her later on. She tells him that it’s over between the two of them, and that he only likes who he is when he’s with her, and that doesn’t necessarily mean that he likes her. Once again, great work from Malte Gårdinger, as well as from Frida Argento.

It’s now time for Wilhelm and Simon’s ~confrontation~, and they don’t quite arrive at a resolution, since there’s still 20 minutes or so left of the episode. For tonight, they just live in the moment, and they go out of the party place to lay down by the…lagoon? Lake? I don’t know what body of water this is. They reminisce about that day, which I don’t recall from any of the episodes? Is this butt out shot happening in the present, or is this in the past?

Okay, I think it’s the present, and I think the day they’re talking about is when they first met each other in the very first episode. Wilhelm asks how can Simon just be over him like that, and Simon says that it was good when it was “us”, but it doesn’t seem like he’s going to change his mind.

The next day, Simon send Wilhelm his birthday gift — a song that he made for him. And it’s a great song, except it’s in the past tense. It really looks like it is the end for the two of them. Even when Wilhelm talks to him the next day at the graduation ceremony, it doesn’t look like things are going to get patched up. There is that one sliver of hope when Simon says that he gave up on the royal family and not on the two of them, but I don’t think Wilhelm sees that as a lifeline.

Or maybe he did! In the car with his parents, he finally comes clean to his mom. This isn’t a role he wants. This is destroying him, even without Simon around. He doesn’t want this for himself…but August does. And the queen finally relents! In a scene that could have been plucked from a straight romance film, Wilhelm runs after Sara’s car, tells Simon that he’s given up the crown, and that he wants to be with him. Who wouldn’t fall for that? Even my cold, black heart couldn’t help but smile as they kissed and said “I love you” to each other.

All in all, I think that the show really stuck the landing, even if I didn’t really care for the rich kid collective action in this season. Trust me, the world needs less of rich kids working together. BUT NONE OF THAT IS IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW. Love won!

This is a new addition to the posts, but if any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
