Manny Jacinto on Quinn? Shut the fuck up.

To those who haven’t read my posts on The Trials, the three-part audio erotica narrated by Jamie Campbell Bower, Quinn is an audio erotica app where you can hear celebrities and independent creators read audio erotica to you. They’ve got a wide range of erotica you can listen to; if you search hard enough, you’ll find way more explicit stuff than the ones the celebrities read. Having listened to The Trials before, I think I have tempered expectations when it comes to this one, read by Manny Jacinto.

The first episode of Hyperdrive is about Kai, a man living in a dystopian future where memories are harvested, but not always legally. The audio opens with Manny Jacinto grunting, and I had to pause. You find out soon enough that it’s not erotic grunting, but you don’t know that right off the bat? It’s a message from his…future self? It’s a memory of him telling himself to not trust the memories. Already interesting Memento-like/Total Recall-like/Blade Runner-like premise!

Kai repairs memory devices, and while he’s repairing his “friend” Ono’s memory device, he finds that Ono has a memory that isn’t his own, bought from a Memory Harvester. It’s illegal and puts Kai in a “shitty” situation, and I have to be honest and say that it was a little hard to understand the first 10 minutes of the story because there was a lot of technical jargon, but more importantly, they have Manny Jacinto groaning a lot. It’s not supposed to be sexual, but it’s still very distracting!

Anyway, Kai makes his way back to Neon City after helping out Ono as best he can, but then his friend Natalya ask him to take a look at her memory device. He’s already suspicious about her intentions, but he does come clean about his visit to Ono in the forbidden Dusk Zone. It’s here that I actually understand the first 10 minutes of the audio, since Manny isn’t groaning as much. Ono is alleging that his memory has been wiped and that new memories have been implanted in it, which is impossible to do, at least as far as Kai knows.

But we finally get to Natalya handing over her memory device to Kai and insisting that he wear it, despite the fact that there are protocols against it and that it is very intimate, since it’s letting someone go through the memories in your head. And boy does Kai see a memory. Natalya’s masturbating in front of a full-length mirror and MANUEL LUIS JACINTO WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS FILTH. ^{MORE PLEASE}

This is definitely more explicit than the Jamie Campbell Bower one; I am literally screaming in my home. Still not as explicit as some of the ones made by independent creators on Quinn, but the spice level has definitely risen in this one.

The day after, Kai is still thinking about Natalya pleasuring herself, about how she would feel beneath him, and I am screaming. He wants to do so much more to Natalya, but there’s just no opportunity to do so while at work. It is an experience, you guys, hearing Manny Jacinto talk about body parts and what he’d like to do to them.

But then, Natalya has left her memory device behind in the office. And Kai’s thinking that it’s been left behind for him. Despite his better judgment, he accesses Natalya’s memories again, and this goes on for two months. He is down bad. But he is also a coward, unable to talk to her.

However, things turn for the worse when he starts to hear a ringing in his ears, and blood starts to come out the neural port. It stops him from accessing Natalya’s memories again, but he’s seen it enough times that he remembers it even without the device. But it does finally give him the courage to talk to Natalya…who ignores him. I think this is what his ~future~ self was warning him about. I don’t think Natalya is Natalya at all, or if she even exists.

Anyway, Kai manages to damage Natalya’s device, and while he’s trying to fix it, he finds another memory…and it’s of him having sex with a woman he doesn’t recognize. DUN DUN DUN!
