So, I listened to the first episode of Hyperdrive and rereading it now, I didn’t really emphasize how hot Manny Jacinto’s voice is in this. Just. Guys.

We start off this new episode with Kai, voiced by Manny Jacinto, watching himself have sex with a woman he doesn’t recognize. But all of this is supposedly Natalya’s memory, which had me thinking if Natalya was watching this? Or if this is confirmation that Natalya is a villain?

As it turns out, she is! She calls sentry bots to apprehend Kai, but Kai manages to escape, and he seeks out Ono in the Dusk because it’s starting to look like Ono was on to something. But he’s surprised to find that isn’t there, and in his place is the woman he was having sex with in Natalya’s memory. DUN DUN DUN.

I want to be frank and say that when it comes to the plot? This isn’t as good as The Trials. I’ve mentioned in the previous post on this audio erotica that the non-erotica parts of this are too jargon-y, and that doesn’t let up in this second episode. It also doesn’t help that we only get to hear Kai’s thoughts, and he’s the only one we hear speaking, because when your story involves explosions and a lot of technology, you’re going to need more than that at building the world compared to urban fantasy. My mind wandered off at certain parts, to be honest, and I would only be jolted back into it when we got to the erotica parts.

Once we get to the erotica parts? Oh baby. There’s a shower scene and…well, like I said, this is more explicit than The Trials. I listened to this while doing my groceries and lemme tell you my mouth was agape. My legs crossed. I kinda want the world to crowdfund Manny reading full-on erotica, like the independent creators on Quinn do. Because I got my money’s worth again, like with The Trials.

It’s just a shame that the non-erotica parts of this aren’t as good as the erotica ones. I know that a lot of us aren’t in it for the non-erotica parts, but if they weren’t going to do it as well as the erotica parts, why not just have this be a PWP work? PWP is Porn without Plot, just in case there are still people who don’t know what that means. Then this would have left The Trials in the dust.
