It has been a while, hasn’t it? But I’m back with this again since my work sched has finally loosened up a little! In this week’s edition, we’ve got news from the Frankfurt Book Fair, Reese Witherspoon’s first novel, and the death of Baek Se-hee.
Publishers Weekly interviews Candy Gourlay

Filipina children’s book author Candy Gourlay is in the Frankfurt Book Fair, and she spoke with Publishers Weekly about “colonialism, migration, and identity that define much of contemporary Filipino literature.” Check it out!
Romance at the Frankfurt Book Fair
Since the Philippines is the Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair, a lot of other Filipino writers and publishers are also present. Precious Pages Corporation’s Jun Matias and Summit Books’ June Pauline Sandoval were part of the “The Transnationality of Romance” at the book fair’s Asia Stage. Romance Class’ Mina Esguerra moderated the panel. Because there’s a wide range of romance novels being written and published in the Philippines, you guys!
Baek Se-hee dead at 35
Familiar to a lot of ARMY because of Namjoon’s recommendation, Baek Se-hee, the author of I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki and I Want to Die but I Still Want to Eat Tteokbokki passed away at the age of 35, of still undisclosed reasons.
As reported by The Guardian, Baek Se-hee has been in psychiatric treatment for the past 10 years because of dysthymia, which is persistent depression. I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki is a collection of her conversations with her psychiatrist, as well as her essays.
She was also an organ donor who donated her heart, lungs, liver and both kidneys after her death.
Reese Witherspoon’s first novel
Reese Witherspoon has written a novel! Together with Harlan Coben, she’s written Gone Before Goodbye, which The Guardian reports is about “Maggie McCabe, a former army combat surgeon who takes a discreet medical job for an anonymous client – only for a patient to vanish under her care, setting off an international conspiracy.”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Reese play a surgeon before, but I have seen her play a lawyer!
