The producers really wanted Nori out after the non-elimination in the previous episode, but with two of those already happening this season, that probably means that a non-elimination is happening down the line. Let’s see if this is the episode where it happens!
The girls are back in the Werk Room and are giving Satin Greco the respect she deserves. Ferrxn, who Satin just saved from elimination, shares that Satin has acted like a mother to all of them in the short time that they’ve been together. Well, to all of them except Nori. Poor Nori.
The next day in the Werk Room, Krystal Forever apologizes to Nix, but Nix doesn’t really believe Krystal’s apologies. I don’t blame her! But from her confessional, it seems like Krystal’s apology is sincere. We’ll have to wait and see what see does down the line, if she even gets to go any further, because this apology is giving “eliminated this episode”. Oh wait, as the confessional progresses, she says she doesn’t really care about Nix. Oh well!
Supremme is direct to the point when she finally enters the Werk Room — there will be a double elimination somewhere down the line. She says it’s up to the queens, though, so they should always bring their A-game if they don’t want that to happen to them. But I’m sure production is going to rig things one way or another where almost everyone does bad in one episode.
For this episode’s mini challenge, we get the queens twerking to get balls out of boxes, with the quickest three queens getting an advantage in the Maxi Challenge. Laca Udilla, Margarita, and Denébola are the top three queens, and they’re made team captains for what is essentially the girl group challenge of the season.
The teams end up being Laca with Ferrxn, Satin Greco, and Dafne; Margarita with La Escándalo, Alexandra del Raval, and Krystal Forever; and Denébola with Nix and Eva. There is a little shadiness happening because one of the advantages Laca won by being the first to get the balls out of her box is getting to decide where the last two queens — Dafne and Krystal — get assigned.
The queens are the ones left to decide which songs they’re going to sing: “Hater”, “LGBTQIA+”, or “Match Travesti”. “Hater” is the crowd fave, and the queens start an oppression Olympics because they really want that song. Nix brings up being transgender, Alexandra brings up being working class, and Laca Udilla is smart and picks “Match Travesti” for her team, which Satin Greco previously pointed out has the legs to be played everywhere, at any occasion.
Margarita and Denébola’s teams continue the oppression Olympics and as a native of the ~Global South~, this is HI.LA.RI.OUS. Margarita suggests just leaving it up to chance, but Denébola is against it, and Eva has had it.
With one less queen backing her up, Denébola finally relents and leaves the choice to rock, paper, scissors, which Margarita wins. Her team gets “Hater”, but with all the drama that went down here, I feel like they’re going to fuck it up and end up in the bottom.
Once the groups separate to talk about their songs, Nix has a little vent about why she wanted the song, and her reasons are valid! She gets hate from multiple fronts, because she either gets homophobia from people who don’t know as much about trans people and think she’s gay, or transphobia. Eva points out that she gets fatphobic responses as well as homophobia — intersectionality! — and also points out that the three of them can still talk about all those topics with the song “LGBTQIA+”. It’s giving winner edit for this episode!
Meanwhile, we get a reveal from Margarita’s team, as Alexandra decides “Hater” is the song where she comes out as HIV-positive. She’s had it since she was 18 and she’s 27 now, which is really a testament to how well research has progressed on it over the years. I remember when they were still writing about this on Time and Newsweek and it didn’t seem like there was any hope for a long time. And yes, I am that old.
While those teams are getting heavy with their songs, Laca’s team is writing a funny little bop about…oh god, the only term I know is clown fuckers. The ones who have sex with drag queens. I think they said this in an Untucked from season five? Anyways, that’s what Laca’s team is writing about. This could land them a win, or this could send them to the bottom. I do think there would be higher chances of winning if it was Ru judging, because she loves clownery, but let’s see! As Laca points out, the songs for this challenge are also supposed to be protest songs, and they have to keep that in mind.
Satin being part of Laca’s group alongside the younger queens does bring up a dynamic that’s present everywhere, I think. I’ve also encountered that in the gay scene here, where a certain generation of homosexuals are much more forgiving of what we now consider problematic things, because it’s what they’ve known all their life. If Laca’s team is smart about this, they could use that to their advantage.
As the discussions within Laca’s team progresses, we get to see that maybe it’s just Satin who’ll be writing about the clown fuckers, as Dafne is going to be singing about how her looking young is being used by men as a way to fulfill a pedophilic fantasy of having sex with a young girl. Laca is going to sing about essentially the misogyny they face when they’re in drag.
During the recording, it looks like Krystal Forever is once again being set up for a bottom placement, since the other queens have shown that they can also engage in an argument if need be. Nix and Denébola also look like they’re going to be in the bottom, but I think production is setting it up to be a Krystal vs Nix lip sync.
The next day after the recording session, we get another apology session where the queens dial back the opression Olympics they played while picking the songs. I really do think Laca Udilla did the smart thing there by picking the song that they did, because now they don’t need to walk anything back.
With that out of the way, we get the ~moral lessons~ segment of the show underway, with the queens talking about the hate they’ve received, whether online or out in the real world. Margarita got all six of her teeth broken back in middle school because of a bully, the hate crime Laca experienced was disregarded by the police, and Nix experiencing transphobia in Denmark. It’s all very sad to hear, but I admit that in the back of my head, I can’t help but think of all the Western gays who keep on sticking their noses in the lack of ~progressiveness~ in ~Global South~ countries when all of this is happening in their supposedly progressive countries. I’ll be the first to admit that there really is a lot to be done over here in my country, but I’d appreciate it if these Western gays mind their own backyard first before sticking their noses here.
We finally get to the performances and Laca’s group is up first. I think they did great, but like with the other international seasons that aren’t in English, I wish they also translated the song lyrics because I feel like that would have made me appreciate the performances more. I’d learn Spanish if I could, but I don’t think I’ll learn it quick enough to understand all the nuances!
Margarita’s group is up next and while they also did good, I kinda noticed that Krystal isn’t as quick with the dance moves as the rest of them. Of course, this is me speaking as a non-dancer, so maybe I’m just being nitpicky and that she actually did okay. Nix thinks only Alexandra did well, so there’s that!
Finally, it’s Denébola’s group performing and well…they performed!
The runway theme is Disfrutonas, which Google translates as “a woman who enjoys life”. However, everyone’s walking on the runway in green stuff so maybe Google is wrong about this? I did just look at the first result, so this is also laziness on my part. ANYWAY, the looks I liked were Krystal’s, Eva’s, and Laca Udilla’s. I guess I’m on a camp thing today!
Laci Udilla’s team wins the challenge, which just emphasizes how smart she was to avoid the whole “Hater” debate. She’s even the winner within the group who gets the cash prize!
From the judge’s critiques, it looks like I may be right and it’s going to be a Krystal Forever and Nix lip sync. Eva could also be down there, and boy did Supremme answer my question immediately because she says it’s going to be a top three and two queens are going home this episode. My goodness.
And then I am proven wrong again as it is La Escándalo, Nix, and Eva in the bottom. Judging from the way the judges talked about her, I think it’s Eva for sure going home. It’s going to be a toss up between La Escándalo and Nix.
Once the lip sync commences, Eva wastes time taking off her outfit, while La Escándalo just isn’t grabbing attention. This is definitely Nix’s to lose and…I’m right! Nix and Krystal get to fight another day!
If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
