Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 18 Episode 3

I am way behind, I know, but I just had a hectic work week and I am only catching up now. Forgive me!

Do I really need a recap of the second episode since there’s already four episodes out? DD was the first out even though I thought it was going to be Mandy. Let me get into this episode since you all already know who went home by now!

Back in the Werk Room, Mandy’s sad to see DD go home, but is also happy that she isn’t the Pork Chop of the season. She’s also keenly aware that if she is in the bottom again this episode, she probably is going to go home. Well.

As for the other queens, Jane is feeling the weight of being the early frontrunner, while Athena is shook because this is not the French vanilla fantasy she envisioned for herself when she got cast in the show. Because to be fair, the Dions on the show have had a shaky showing! Briar is having fun, though. She’s liking that Athena’s getting humbled!

The next day in the Werk Room, physical exhaustion is the topic around the table, since it is ~Season 30~ as Vita points out. Wait till you get to your 40s, queens! You think you know exhaustion until you get to your 40s. But all that talk is set aside with the arrival of RuMail, and Ru walking into the Werk Room to tell them that this week’s Maxi Challenge is RDR Live. Oh boy.

For the most part, the handing out of roles goes smoothly, until it gets to Briar and Athena. Briar wants to play the Inner Saboteur to Athena’s host, which is what she already does in the Werk Room, if we’re being honest. Athena is not having that. She wants to do the mom role rather than the host, which leads her into conflict with Jane. Athena still ends up taking the host role anyway, so let’s see how this goes. Well, everyone else has seen how this goes. I only know who gets sent home this episode, but I’ve not been informed of the particulars of the episode.

And it really does look like Briar is gonna fuck Athena up! “I wanna call you fat with everything in me”? Unhinged. She’s just jab, jab, jabbing at Athena, and as much as it makes the experience excruciating for Athena, it is fun to watch.

Elsewhere in the Werk Room, the other Dion in the competition is also having a hard time. Juicy’s never acted before, and Myki is definitely seeing that since Juicy is her scene partner. I wanna see how they save themselves from this one because I know they don’t end up being the bottom two.

When the walkthroughs start, they’re already setting up Mandy for the bottom, with Ru noting how good she was during the lip sync. Or maybe I’m just thinking that because I know she goes home this episode. Mandy hopes she performs well on this challenge and lives up to the quirky image that Ru sees in her and…well.

While I do know Mandy goes home, I don’t know who wins this episode! Is it Myki? She gets a whole moment when she gets her chance to talk with Ru, bringing up how Saturday Night Live was a bonding moment for her and her father. It could be the producers foreshadowing a win!

RDR Live starts and it’s Mandy, Darlene, Discord, and Mia up first and…well. It was okay? It was something! It happened! Let’s be honest here, the writing for the comedy challenges on main Drag Race hasn’t been great for some time. And maybe the queens have gotten into their heads a little because previous seasons had enough charismatic queens to lift the material up. Latrice telling you to get those nuts away from her face? Hilarious.

Athena and Briar are up next and Briar may have just overestimated herself because her acting is very high school production when you compare it to Athena’s. The lipstick lesbians skit was…something. I dunno, I’m not an actor or anything, but as a viewer, these skits just feel truncated? Like they haven’t been given enough breathing room to be funny?v In fact, I think more care was given to Ru’s performance. RDR Live is just the scaffolding to prop up her musical number.

Ciara Myst and Briar Blush are up next for QNN and…yeah, Briar just isn’t shining in this episode. Add the fact that Jane is also in this segment? Is she going to get the top spot in this one too? Is she going to be this season’s frontrunner?

The best skit is Young Michelle, but I think that’s only because everything else has been meh.

The next day, Juicy isn’t feeling great about her chances, but does give Myki her flowers for helping her out with the skit. And Myki’s feeling good about her chances as well, and I think she should because it was the best skit and she also got to share a story from her life earlier. If that isn’t a set-up for a challenge win, I don’t know what is.

Meanwhile, Jane is feeling anxious not about landing in the bottom, but possibly winning yet again this episode. I can see where she’s coming from! I’m not saying I’m someone talented or anything, but same as her, I do not want people to hate me. I’m not built to be a villain, y’all! I only pretend to be one. Also, Ciara Myst used to work for the Secret Service?

Animal Attraction is the theme for this runway and Discord opens it strong with that face bag. And Mandy actually delivers on the outfit as well! I thought it looked good! But it’s gotta be Athena who’s taking the crown for the costumes this week because that owl outfit was beautiful. I also liked Juicy’s pangolin look!

Discord, Mia, Athena, Nini, Kenya, Ciara, and Myki are the safe queens, so that really unsettles Juicy because she knows Myki was the stronger one between the two of them. She’s left with the top and bottom queens and she’s feeling she’s in the bottom.

We get to the critiques and I hear what everyone else has been saying online but I do think that there is a point there from the judges. Darlene and Mandy’s characters were meant to be opposites of each other, so Mandy showing titty just made her be like Darlene. That said, I also agree with online sentiment that if Mandy hadn’t shown titty, the judges would say that she didn’t do enough. They really just want Mandy out of here.

It also looks like Briar is going to be the one Mandy loses to, and I think her bottom placement is fair. She really was the weakest in both of the skits she was involved in. Vita also gets what I think are fair critiques, and we even get a Kennedy Davenport “crystallized” callback!

Jane and Juicy also get great critiques, so does this mean that Jane’s ~vision~ of being the frontrunner comes true? Or will this be a win for Juicy? It just might be a win for Juicy!

And she does win! I wonder how Myki’s going to feel about this in the next episode that has already aired and everybody else but me has watched. Mandy and Briar face off and…Mandy did better, sorry about it. But she wasn’t going to stick around since this is her third time in the bottom, so it’s her time to sashay away.

If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
