Oh my god am I actually watching it just hours after it airs? Oh my god.
Nobody went home in the previous episode, but Ciara is poised to lip sync for her life at the end of this episode. But who will she lip sync against?
What is very apparent now is that Juicy Love Dion is now the show’s frontrunner, with two wins under her belt. Jane is feeling pretty worried since she’s here without a support system like the Dion drag family, and I don’t blame her! In moments like Rate-A-Queen, having a family with you helps a lot.
Ciara, at least outwardly, is handling her bottom placement well. She’s curious about the reason the queens voted the way they did, and just like Jane, I don’t blame her for feeling the way she does. The alliances are very obvious, especially with the Dion drag family.
The next day, Kenya makes sure to make a Briar Blush squabble joke before Ru’s arrival cuts into the table discussion. Ru’s got a pretty straightforward message. There’s going to be someone lip-syncing against Ciara Myst, and that someone will go home this episode.
Unlike the previous episode, the queens rating this time around get together and discuss how they’re going to do it. Juicy, to her credit, is upfront that family will always be a consideration for her, but she also hasn’t seen anybody’s talent and she’ll take that into consideration. Mia is also very candid that she will place Athena highly in the rating, and while some queens my consider this unfair, I would be okay with it if I was in the competition because they’re at least upfront about it. That way, I can strategize and find a way to save myself. It’s harder to plan when the other person is hiding things from you!
Ciara is definitely thinking strategically, and she’s got her sights set on Discord, who she says she can take in a lip sync battle. Vita agrees, but Vita is also friends with Discord, so Vita may not vote the way that Ciara is hoping her to vote. Ciara might not get what she wants!
Jane thinks she’s the one who’s being targeted, not knowing that it’s actually Discord that Ciara is targeting. I do think that Jane is catastrophizing in her head, but hey, if it works for her, there’s no incentive for her to stop! Jane does get some relief, I think, when Juicy spills to her that Ciara is targeting Discord. Juicy tells Discord as well, so I don’t know how things are going to turn out now. But it does provide for conflict even without Briar Blush in the picture! I do imagine how much messier it would be if Briar was still here.
We get some glimpses of the queen’s inner life as they prepare for their second talent show, like Myki and Jane doing Bjork impressions. And I do love Bjork!
But honestly, I do love Bjork. Medúlla is my jam.
To be fair to Jane, as the episode progresses, she herself admits that she catastrophizes things. She says in the confessionals that she feels the other queens won’t immediately get what her act is and that may put her in the bottom. It could happen! But we can’t really say for sure because as Jane is catastrophizing, there are other discussions happening in the Werk Room, such as Nini telling Ciara that she’ll nudge the number if she can to ensure they both stay in the competition. Discord and Vita are also talking, and so are Athena and Mia. The second bottom placement might literally be anybody at this point. That bottom placement might even by Myki, because she’s getting a segment of her own where she talks about her talent number and how she wants to bring back the vaudevillian experience with her performance.
Then Michelle walks in to talk with the rest of the queens, and up first are last week’s performers. It’s basically her complimenting them and getting them to say that they’re going to vote the queen they dislike to the bottom of the ratings. The discussion with queens performing this week is juicier, because Michelle straight up calls out Kenya Pleaser for not knowing the words in a lip sync. That is nuclear-level psychological warfare and it will either galvanize Kenya or just cause her to spiral. She might be in the bottom, depending on how she reacts.
The runway theme is “Shake Shake Shake” and Myki’s outfit didn’t get me immediately, but when she started walking? Loved it. I also really liked Jane’s outfit, Discord’s outfit, Vita’s outfit, and Nini’s outfit.
Myki is also up first for the actual talent show and I also loved her performance. Maybe she’s not going to be in the bottom! She might be one of the top girls! Athena does okay, but I don’t think it’s a top performance. Kenya’s lip syncing is being publicly discussed by the judges, so it really might be her going up against Ciara. Michelle really fucked her up!
Jane delivers a great performance, which will probably get her another top placement. I liked Discord’s performance, but as Ciara pointed out, it still lacked something. It was giving Pansy Division but not Pansy Division enough, if that makes sense?
Stream it on Spotify too!
After the voting, it’s Jane and Athena in the top spots. And I gotta say, Athena did outdo Jane in this one. The thing with her tie as an electric guitar? Loved it. She wins and Jane is gagged. Athena’s win now means the entire Dion family contingent has won something, so if I were the rest of the queens, I would focus on those three. It’s just the smart thing to do!
We get to the announcement of the bottom queen and it’s…Myki. And just like her, all I could say was Damn. I did not expect that. It’s her and Ciara in the lip sync. And the lip sync is…well, it wasn’t like the lip sync between Juicy and Mia, let’s just say that. Myki gets to stay!
If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
