Ron Watches The Boyfriend Season 2 Episode 6

I know I’m a bad person for doing so, but Jobu getting the dramatic rejected lover edit in the previous episode? Hilarious to me. Let’s see how they’re going production is going to treat Jobu in this episode!

Right off the bat, it’s Kazuyuki getting the ~edit~ in this episode as he’s shown snoring while sleeping in the living room. Then Jobu starts to draw on his face with markers because of course. And I guess it’s a Japanese cultural thing to write “meat” on somebody’s forehead while they’re sleeping. I’m curious about that. How did it start? What does it mean?

After that, the boys get on a bus to Niseko, which is something that season one never got to do. These guys really have it easier! Izaya and William are at the back of the bus, lightly squabbling about that message from episode four, while Jobu is telling Kazuyuki that his mom is telling him to come home because his mood has been like a rollercoaster. Is this foreshadowing? William and Izaya don’t help either, because Izaya is literally laying his head on William’s shoulder.

Opening credits time!

The guys finally arrive at Niseko, and the first thing the production shows us is the guys in a huge hot bath like some sort of man soup. We get some shirtless Ryuki I think for the first time? Huwei and Izaya are also dressing up Bomi and William, respectively, and can I just say I find that hot and intimate? The boys head out from the hot bath wearing their yukatas and then have dinner.

A tense dinner, at least from Jobu’s point of view, because he looks like he’s about to explode when William says he wants to leave the Green Room with no regrets left behind. Hiroya’s also looking the same when Huwei speaks up, but there’s just something about Jobu that makes me sympathize and also laugh? I can’t articulate it!

Later that night, the boys start talking about coming out, and Ryuki shares that he comes out to people he wants to get close to. He hasn’t told his parents, though, and he’s looking to anybody else in the group who’s done it for some pointers. Jobu does it in what I consider the Filipino way: telling it without directly saying it. He just introduces his boyfriends to his mom, and that’s it.

Huwei, on the other hand, has a much more complicated answer. He doesn’t like using the word “gay”, but he also doesn’t like his mother pressuring him for grandchildren. He did tell her that he’s not into women, but he’s not sure if his mom took him seriously. Ryuki shares that his parents have a completely negative view of same-sex attraction, and I can only hope that this gets better for him as the show progresses.

We then get an arm wrestling competition among the guys to decide what to do the next day, and the one that emerges on top is Huwei, who very quickly dispatches Izaya. Not gonna lie, it was pretty hot how Huwei just casually defeated Izaya after Izaya defeated multiple guys to get to him.

And then I guess I misunderstood the subtitles because apparently it’s to decide who they speak one-on-one to, and Huwei declines to make a choice? Did something happen between him and Bomi? Second place Izaya then picks William, Jobu picks Huwei, Hiroya picks Bomi, and Huwei’s face. You made the choice, dude! Oldest Kazuyuki and youngest Ryuki are together by default.

Back in Untucked, Bomi and Huwei talk about Izaya picking William and how they’re a sure thing. But then Huwei points out that maybe that’s happening because neither one trusts the other to be with other people, and I hear the shade rattle echoing all around me.

Meanwhile, the boys in the Interior Illusions Lounge wonder why Huwei didn’t pick anyone. Hiroya talks about how he picked Huwei to wrok with because he was interested in him, and that he told Huwei this, and then Bomi walks in the back, and the queens guys lower their voices and whisper maybe they should talk about this later, but Hiroya is feeling his oats and he’s going to talk about this now. I feel like this is Season 4 Untucked.

The guys push Hiroya to take the initiative when talking to Huwei, with Izaya even saying that he still thinks he has a shot with Huwei. And all of this is happening while Bomi makes sporadic appearances in the back. It’s messy and I love it.

The next morning, William and Izaya are left in the room as the guys head out for breakfast, and they’re holding hands and kissing each other’s hands. Fine, it’s cute. But that’s all we get to see, which I guess is okay because it’s gotta be a lot to watch Izaya take William’s huge dick. I’ve seen the pictures and video. It’s sizable!

After that, the guys head out, with some going to the slopes, some going to the glass bead workshop, and William and Izaya riding horses. The horse riding trail that William and Izaya go to is gorgeous, and if some wealthy benefactor takes me there I would not object.

Elsewhere in Niseko, Jobu and Huwei talk about Bomi and Huwei’s one-on-one date, and Huwei says it was nothing more than just that. Oh my. Oh my. Does Bomi know? Huwei thinks he needs to nurture his feelings some more, and I agree-ish, so long as Huwei doesn’t turn out to be a bad person. They then start talking about how far William and Izaya could have gone physically, and I think there will be signs once Izaya takes on William’s dick. The conversation then turns to Jobu’s one and only ex, whom Jobu cried over a lot.

Meanwhile, Kazuyuki and Ryuki continue their talk from the gym. Kazuyuki shares that, since sharing his past relationship with Ryuki, memories have been flooding back for him. We don’t get to see Kazuyuki”s ex, but apparently he was the hotter one between the two of them, and would defend Kazuyuki from people. I wonder what led to the break-up, because the ex sounds like a nice guy.

As for Hiroya and Bomi, I don’t know what game Hiroya is playing, but his directness is refreshing. After Bomi heems and haws when asked about who he likes right now, Hiroya is straight to the point and tells Bomi that he likes Huwei, and that he was sure Huwei would pick Bomi during last night’s game. Bomi tries to rationalize, but I honestly do not care. Now it’s Bomi’s turn for psychological warfare, so he asks Hiroya about his crush on Huwei and what he likes about him. Hiroya says it’s more than just Huwei being cute, and then asks for Bomi’s permission to talk one-on-one with Huwei to confirm if what they have between them is one-sided. He then messages Huwei and tells him he wants to talk to him one-on-one tonight as soon as Bomi goes to piss or something. Again, the balls on Hiroya!

Elsewhere in this sprawling resort, William and Izaya talk about sleeping next to each other and how William is happy about what they have right now, as opposed to when he was feeling overwhelmed by Izaya’s attention earlier on in the show. William says he realized how important physical contact is after they held each other’s hands this morning, and at this point, I am hoping that Izaya has poppers with him because William’s dick in him is going to hurt.

Now, while I’ve tried my best to stay away from the online discussions about the show, but I have seen people talking about how they didn’t like William and Izaya. I have to admit, I don’t get the hate. They don’t look like a toxic couple, at least not any more than Dai and Shun were in the previous season. And look at Dai and Shun now! They were so nice when I met them last year!

Later that night, the boys have a fancy dinner to celebrate their last night at Niseko, and share ~sweet~ relationship stories. Ryuki starts off with a pretty tame YA-like story, and then Jobu shares kind moments from his ex that gets Kazuyuki crying. And then William starts to tell a story about his ex and the way the camera focuses on Izaya has me cackling.

William’s ex is German, and fulfilled William’s dream to be introduced to his partner’s family. Now, William wants to do that to whoever his partner is going to be, and Izaya is focused. But I think William should have also shared the story he told in the confessionals, when he reveals that his German ex love-bombed him and then proceeded to ghost him. That’s why he doesn’t take expressions of affection too seriously now.

Later that night, Hiroya and Huwei finally have their one-on-one conversation, and again, I really appreciate how upfront Hiroya has been. He says he’s confused by Huwei, which gets Huwei to admit that he’s torn between Jobu, Bomi, and Ryuki. Damn. Well, Hiroya did want a direct answer, and he got it!

The boys finally leave Niseko, and William starts catastrophizing on the bus ride home. I can’t blame him! That German guy really did a number on him. And I feel like if he opened up about this to Izaya, things would be a lot easier? But I also get why he isn’t opening up, and instead asks Izaya why he feels so confident that his feelings for William will still be there outside of the Green Room. Then Izaya shares the heartbreaking story about his mom, and I almost, almost cry.

If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
