Ron Watches The Boyfriend Season 2 Episode 7

We learnt a pretty sad fact about Izaya in the previous episode, which hopefully reassures William and lets him finally trust that Izaya’s feelings for him are sincere. Let’s see where things go in this episode!

The show’s likely couples so far — Huwei and Bomi, William and Izaya — open the episode as they sit silently in the living room, with Jobu watching them like a hawk. William asks Izaya if he’s okay, as it looks like remembering his mother’s death took a lot out of him. Or at least that’s what I thought, because Izaya says that William asking him if he thinks his feelings will still be there once they leave the Green Room has made him anxious. Can’t blame him! And Jobu is watching.

Opening credits time!

The day after, Jobu and Hiroya are…sunbathing? sorta? outside and Hiroya shares how Huwei rejected him in Niseko. Hiroya is at least taking this better than Ryota did in season one! He also tells Jobu that William’s rejection wouldn’t have hurt so badly if William and Izaya were getting along well, but as we saw before the opening credits, those two are still on shaky ground.

Shaky ground that they are maybe fortifying, because they go off to have another one-on-one conversation. Izaya says he can’t understand why William is being so negative, and William says his past is stopping him from completely trusting people. I do think William needs to elaborate on his past, as he did in the confessionals, because that would clear things up a lot for Izaya and give Izaya the chance to reassure him. Or maybe that happened offscreen? It doesn’t seem like Izaya knows about the German ghoster! But Izaya reassures William anyway and tells him to speak up when he’s feeling negative so they can be partners about it and work on it together. And it makes William cry! Again, maybe I’m just missing something, but I really don’t get the William and Izaya hate!

Ryuki is out of commission because of a fever when the next coffee truck shift leader is announced, and can I just say how cute he is with the face mask, the stuffed toy, and the humidifier in the room? This time, the shift leader position is voluntary, and Hiroya takes it on and still picks Huwei despite being rejected. He’s persevering, that’s for sure! Unfortunately, they did not persevere in the coffee selling because they only made ¥3,900.

Back at the Green Room, everyone is cleaning the house. Jobu and William are washing the dishes and talking about Izaya without mentioning Izaya. And Jobu is saying he doesn’t wanna get in the way, but also isn’t shy about saying that he isn’t happy about the situation. Jobu says he doesn’t want to ruin the friendship, but I also think Jobu should remember that William already said no.

Meanwhile, Huwei and Hiroya are getting on a ship to see drift ice. Maybe this is why they closed the coffee truck early! I gotta say, I liked that the coffee truck had more bearing on the guys’ everyday life in season one. Call me boring, but I wanna see conflicts over budgeting! But to be fair, that drift ice does look beautiful. I’d leave the coffee truck behind, too!

We then find out why Hiroya still picked Huwei even after getting rejected. He’s leaving the Green Room the day after tomorrow, and he just wanted to tell Huwei that he’s happy he got to know him, even if the experience was one-sided.

Back at the Green Room, Bomi has just sent a text to someone, but we all know it’s going to be Huwei. Huwei shows up, and Bomi asks what Huwei’s thoughts are about him, especially since Bomi’s already told him how he feels. And to be fair to Huwei, he’s honest and tells him that while he thinks he’s cute, he still doesn’t think of Bomi in that way. But Bomi isn’t deterred either, and emphasizes that he does see Huwei in that way. And while Huwei’s refusal to commit to an emotion kinda started to irritate me at the start of the conversation, the interaction did eventually turn endearing for me. And Bomi flipping his legs when he was alone in his room? Chef’s kiss.

The next day, it’s back to the coffee truck shifts, and there’s some friction as William, Jobu, and Bomi all want to be the shift lead. William, especially, does not plan to back down against Jobu, which is actually kinda exciting for me! I think the most serious disagreement they’ve had in the previous season was Usak’s chicken smoothies! And Jobu relents! He’s gonna cry in the sauna again. It would be hilarious if William picks anybody else but Izaya.

But he does pick Izaya, and they start out their shift looking adorable as they fix their aprons. They do their thing and end the shift with ¥7,400. After their shift, they head to Lake Mashu, which is unfortunately covered with fog. But the moment isn’t any less romantic because William remembered that Izaya wanted a letter as a gift and he wrote him a letter. And it’s a really sweet letter telling him that he now knows that they were meant to reunite at the Green Room, and that his mom and dad have always had a supportive and loving relationship, and that he wants that to happen with him and Izaya now. Again, I respect the people who don’t like the William/Izaya relationship as its been depicted, but I genuinely do think they’ve been sweet and fun to watch so far! I don’t think they were any more toxic than Dai and Shun were back in season one.

Back at the Green Room, Jobu is being a messy bitch and saying that maybe the reason William and Izaya are late to return from their shift is that they had a huge fight. Oh, Jobu, baby. There’s a huge something, but it’s not a fight. It’s William’s cock. William and Izaya finally get back to the Green Room, and tell the rest of the guys that the two of them are now together, and JOBU’S FACE. I CAN’T. I JUST CACKLED.

Kazuyuki is driven to tears by William and Izaya finally getting together, and I think he’s just remembering his own long-term relationship. Jobu’s face is still making me cackle like an evil duck.

The next day, Ryuki finally joins the guys after recovering from his illness. Hiroya, however, is set to leave the Green Room like he told Huwei. It’s for an overseas work trip to see the completion of a project he worked on, but before he leaves, he gifts all of them with cute photo stands, and guys? I want Hiroya to end up with someone. He deserves it! He seems like such a nice guy! And not a Nice Guy™.

But since Hiroya’s left the house, it’s time for someone to step in…and it’s Taeheon. Bitch.

If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
