Luke got Annabeth and the Golden Fleece in the previous episode, but at least Tyson’s brought hippocampi to help Percy and the rest of the gang catch up. But will they succed? Let’s find out! Well, I’ll find out, since everybody else has watched this already.
The episode starts with a flashback to when Annabeth first arrived at the camp, and Thalia faced off with the harpies. We don’t see the face off, but we do see Annabeth and Luke being told that Thalia’s been turned into the tree that protects the camp. Or at least, used to protect the camp, since Luke’s now poisoned it.
Then we rocket back to the present, as that little scene was from Annabeth’s memory. She’s tied up in the supply room of Luke’s cruise ship, and the Golden Fleece has just been taken off her body by Alison, who I assume is going to give it to Luke so they can wake Kronos up.
As for the cruise ship, it’s docked somewhere it’s not supposed to be, as Old Man Exposition tells us, which gives Percy and the gang time to catch up and accost one of Luke’s gang. They get the info they need, but they hit a snag as Clarisse and Percy can’t agree on a plan of action, until Percy hits Clarisse with the “Your gonna fail because you push people away” card, which gives her an opportunity to lull him into a sense of complacency that allows her to swipe his key card from him. Not what I thought was going to happen, and it’s a great choice! Was that how it happened in the book, or is this a show original?
On the ship, Luke has put the Golden Fleece on Kronos’ sarcophagus, while Clarisse and Percy have both climbed onto the boat through different paths. Clarisse finds herself stuck in a weapons room when other demigods unexpectedly walk in, while Percy manages to steal another keycard and also gets on the good side of a captured pegasus. He also manages to get to Annabeth and free her, but Annabeth refuses to leave until they get back the Golden Fleece.
Even if Percy wanted to force her to leave, he’s stopped from doing so by the arrival of Luke, who tells Annabeth that Percy defied the gods to save her. Fortunately, Annabeth is a child of Athena who tells Percy what to do without Luke noticing, and off Percy goes to retrieve the Golden Fleece from Kronos’ sarcophagus. Tyson and Grover, however, do not have a child of Athena helping them out, so they turn to Percy’s mother for help in getting a ride to camp, which may or may not have been a good decision on their part. Let’s see what happens when she gets to them!
Back on Luke’s cruise ship, Kronos is whispering something to Alison, and it looks like it involves Alison killing someone. Annabeth, maybe? Because what we’re shown next is Annabeth talking to Luke, telling him that the Golden Fleece could bring Thalia back to them. It looks like Luke might be convinced, but Kronos has got his claws in him good.
Kronos also has his claws in Alison, who is going to kill Annabeth. She heads to the weapons room to get the guys there to go with her, giving Clarisse the opportunity to finally get out of that room and head to Kronos, who is already trying to get into Percy’s head. Kronos tells Percy the Great Prophecy in exchange for leaving the Golden Fleece on the sarcophagus, but Percy’s having none of that and snatches it anyway. However, Luke is already back and he is not happy.
Down below, Clarisse arrives to save Annabeth, and we get dual fight scenes that are pretty good in my opinion! While Clarisse is fighting demigods below deck, Percy and Luke are battling it out, with Percy managing to get the Golden Fleece, but getting stabbed in the process. Fortunately, he’s got the Golden Fleece! He manages to give the Golden Fleece to Clarisse, who he finally sorta becomes friends with. He tells her to get on the pegasus — Blackjack — that he’s friends with so she can get the Golden Fleece back to camp as quickly as possible.
Percy and Annabeth, on the other hand, are going the long way round, as they have to do it in Percy’s mom’s car, together with Grover and Tyson. And they have to get there quick, because Kronos has just ordered Luke to join the battle and kill Percy.
