Well, the streak had to end at some point. Late to this again!
Athena went home in the previous episode, which means Juicy is the last Dion standing and representing the family in the competition. Juicy is emotional, and understandably so. Juicy teaches the queens how to say “I love you” in Greek to bid Athena farewell.
After that somber moment, the queens celebrate Jane’s win, as well as Myki’s top placement. Kenya also gets celebrated for her top placement, and then Discord draws attention to herself, which leads to Myki and Jane telling her that she should have gone home tonight. ~Foreshadowing~, maybe? Also, Iman as the extra special guest judge? Damn.
Once they’re back in the Werk Room the next day, the queens discuss whether this is the top seven they envisioned in their heads, and Nini immediately says Darlene wasn’t one of the queens she had in mind. Shade! But that isn’t the only shade that’s going to be thrown as Ru enters the Werk Room and tells them that it’s time for the Reading Challenge. I thought Myki and Jane did well, and am not surprised that Myki wins
Ru then tells the girls that just because the eliminated queens have been…uh…eliminated, it doesn’t mean that they can’t come back to haunt them, and for a second, everyone thinks those queens are coming back. But it’s not them, it’s just their luggage! The remaining queens are tasked to make an outfit from the materials in the suitcases left behind by the eliminated queens, and Jane is feeling pretty confident since she’s one of the last sewing queens left.
Myki gets to pick one of the suitcases first, and as the whole selection process pans out, Discord ends up with Mandy Mango’s luggage, and she’s not confident about her chances this episode. But it looks like she might be one of the lucky ones, as Jane gets fabric scraps from Ciara’s luggage. Definitely not going to be a back to back win for her, if her pessimism is to be believed. Darlene is also not happy with what she got from Athena’s luggage, which is zebra print fabric and black and white appliques. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Nini Coco, who’s happy with the illustration print DD left behind.
Ru arrives for the walkthrough, and Jane, bless her heart, still does not get encouraged even if Ru had very positive things to say about her. Meanwhile, Discord gets asked about when she thinks she’ll break out, and she says that she thought that The Pope™ would do it, and I thought so too!
Once Ru leaves, we get the most obvious foreshadowing of all when Discord gets asked about the safety pins that she’s using on her creation. From the focus that this got, it’s obvious this is going to be a talking point once they’re on the runway. And would you look at that, it’s a talking point even before it gets on the runway. Kenya and Juicy think its shenanigans, while Nini asks Discord if she’s sure the judges will accept her work.
Elsewhere in the Werk Room, Jane professes her love for “Boom Boom Pow” by The Black Eyed Peas.
Stream it on Spotify!
Also, Darlene’s bag of wigs? Kenya referencing MC Debra?
The runway show starts, and the outfits that I like are Discord’s, Jane’s, Juicy’s, and wouldn’t you know it, Kenya. Also, I wish I looked like Iman, that woman is gorgeous.
The queens all get very positive critiques, which really should have been a warning to everyone, because after they’ve been buttered up, Ru asks them who they think should go home. Juicy then drops the bomb of the safety pins not being in Mandy’s luggage. That bomb ripples out and gives the rest of the girls permission to name Discord as the queen they think should go home.
After the judges’ deliberation, Darlene, Nini, and Myki are safe, and then Juicy and Discord are declared safe. It’s a lip sync for the win between Jane and Kenya! The song stars and its a Patti LaBelle song, so you just know Kenya’s going to win this. But Jane turns it out. She’s now the frontrunner!
