My goodness it actually looks like I am going to catch up with everybody else when it comes to this series. And by catch up I mean it won’t take me weeks after the finale before I finally finish watching the series.
Let’s go!
Secretary Kim has finally made contact with Morpheus in the previous episode, but she doesn’t know yet that Morpheus and Cyrus are one and the same person. She probably won’t even find that out in this episode because it’s just 20 minutes and we still have to get through this soon-to-be drama-filled dinner BMC is going to have with his family. And boy is this dinner awkward, with BMC being snippy with Cyrus and Cyrus unintentionally? intentionally? pushing BMC’s buttons.
Secretary Kim also has her own awkward family drama to resolve as well, as her father isn’t happy about her digging up the old kidnapping case from her childhood that is integral to That Plotline that I am not a big fan of. At least Kim’s father is much more supportive to her troubles compared to BMC and his family.
Because over at Rich People Ville, Cyrus and BMC are being all Typical Males and posturing and threatening each other with physical violence and I really do think Jake Cuenca and Gerald Anderson did this whole sibling rivalry thing better in Tayong Dalawa.
Anyways, BMC heads to Secretary Kim’s place after getting punched in the face and now I’m curious how they’re going to find an equivalent to the Korean ramen question in Filipino culture. Or will they just conveniently skip it? I do side with Kim on this carbs on carbs feel-good dish because I sorta do that as well but with rice rather than bread. Also wouldn’t you know it Paolo Avelino can actually pull a comedic face!
While BMC and Kim are sharing the joys of carbohydrates, BMC’s dad is thinking back to how he’s treated his children over the years and I gotta say I don’t remember this from the original. Is this a deviation? Or have I simply erased this from my mind since I wasn’t particularly fond of this plot line any way?
The episode ends with Secretary Kim on top of BMC and this I remember from the original because this was definitely the better plot line.
Both BMC and Kim are interrogated the next day about their rendezvous the night before — BMC by his best friend and Kim by her sister. It’s cute and a little funny because it’s Pepe Herrera and Cat Cortez doing the interrogating, but they do skip over the ramen question. I guess it really doesn’t have an equivalent in Filipino culture. I can think of a pancit canton pun but this show is still PG.
Over at Rich People Ville BMC’s mother is making her husband and Cyrus fix their relationship over cleaning materials and this definitely didn’t happen in the Korean original. I don’t know if I like this deviation just yet, but I do know that I really did not like this plot line in the original. Because I haven’t said that yet over the course of multiple blog posts.
While those two are cleaning up their mess, the BMC-Secretary Kim side of the show is fully leaning in to the K-drama romance of it all. Tripping and falling to the arms of the romantic interest? Check! Male lead says something offhand but it’s so kilig? Check! Accidentally holding hands? Check! I do miss the product placement though surely Choco Mucho isn’t the only product that put out money for this?
There’s yet another Family Drama scene with the rich people but I exclude myself from that narrative and chose to focus on the continuing cuteness between BMC and Secretary Kim instead. Because I can see it, KimPau people. I can see it.
I see it which is why my goodness I just wish this whole brother storyline did not exist. In this adaptation and the original. It really did not work for me at all in the original and it’s looking like it’s not going to work for me in this adaptation as well.
One deviation from the original that I like in this episode is that they make it more obvious that BMC is into Secretary Kim. I know I complained about it in previous posts but maybe it’s the heat, maybe there’s a shift in the wind, but I’m appreciating it in this episode. The episode ends with BMC asking Kim out to dinner and I am legitimately kilig!
