Ron Watches Drag Race France Season 3 Episode 6

Again, there’s not enough videos of Drag Race France, whether official or fanmade

Work has been hectic and quite honestly my internet connection hasn’t been doing that great either, so I’ve been playing catch up with the Drag Race shows. I only got to watch the latest All Stars 9 episode earlier today!

Anyways, here i am watching the sixth episode of Drag Race France!

Norma Bell went home the previous episode, sent home by Le Filip. It hits the French queens really hard, because apparently Norma Bell is the Keese of the group (Let’s see if any of you young people get that reference!). Either way, Le Filip is determined not to be a bottom queen again.

The next day, there’s a little bit of badge counting as the queens talk about who’s taken home a win in the past few episodes and it looks like Le Filip and Misty are the only ones left without a win. Which tells me that one of them is definitely going home this episode. Probably Le Filip because they’ve been telegraphing it since the previous episode.

From the Nicky Mail, the queens immeidately figure out that it’s going to be a makeover episode, and Lula Strega has a galaxy brain moment and thinks they might makeover the past queens. That would be interesting!

But before we get to that Maxi Challenge, we get to do another pointless Drag Rae France mini challenge where the girls get to host drag bingo. They have five minutes to get into quick drag and well…they look as good as you’d expect for five minutes.

Hosting the drag bingo is season 1 winner Paloma’s drag child Sergei, who is a drag king, and…well maybe his mom needs a few words with him because that was…hosting, technically. I guess? Anyways, this is an incredibly athletic mini challenge that, once again, has no bearing in the actual competition.

Finally, we get to the makeover challenge and the season three queens aren’t going to be making over past queens. Rather, they’ll be making over older LGBTQIA people. So it’s RuPaul’s Drag Race season 2!

AND WOULDN’T YOU KNOW IT THE MINI CHALLENGE FINALLY COUNTS FOR SOMETHING. Since Perseo won the mini challenge, he gets to pair the queens up and Lula is afraid that Perseo is going to be shady about it. But Perseo insist she isn’t shady and to be honest it’s always difficult for these young queens to makeover older people? I honestly think these makeovers aren’t going to be complementary to these older people once we see it.

The elder LGBTQ people have great stories. One of them is part of a group that helps LGBTQ people age well, while another is a trans woman that transitioned late in life. And of course these elder peoples stories of living through less accepting times and paving the way for the more liberal environment these queens now live in.

One thing I found endearing is how the elder cisgender men among the makeover subjects took to heels like ducks to water while the women found it harder to do so. Such a simple but effective way to show that gender and gender roles are just a construct!

It’s also moving and frustrating to see that these older queer people still have to suffer through hate crimes, especially in a ~First World~ country. Like…you’re a First World country with still existing colonies you could at least be a little less backward socially and culturally.

Sylvain talking about the hate crime attack he survived prompts Lula to talk about how she’s had to live with an alcoholic mother and the struggles that come with that and I gotta say this conversation was better edited than the one in Drag Race Mexico. You could really see where the “stitching” was in that Drag Race Mexico editing while the one here in France is done more subtly.

They show the elder people their looks before the runway and…well…the elders are very nice about it? I dunno I know I’m not a makeup maven or connoisseur or whatever but I feel like I’m taking crazy pills because I thought the makeup was…terrible?

The runway starts and okay the faces look better with the proper lighting. BUT WHY WOULD PRODUCTION LIGHT THEM HORRIBLY DURING THAT WERK ROOM SCENE THOUGH. These elders have suffered enough!

During the judges critiques it looks like it’s going to be Perseo and Misty Phoenix in the bottom two and that just means a guaranteed goodbye for Misty. You can’t outsplit Perseo! Although I gotta say this is the first time ever I’ve ever heard a judge complain about the queen wearing high heels. Usually it’s the kitten heels that are being pointed out!

Ruby gets her second win and is now the frontrunner, although I am a little miffed that Opaline didn’t get the same €1,000 prize she did. ANYWAY, it’s Perseo and Misty Phoenix in the bottom and I feel like the result is going to be obvious.

BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THAT’S NOT THE CASE. I don’t know why Perseo constantly had her hand on that headpiece thing but it really hobbled her! I thought she would outsplit Misty Phoenix but that didn’t happen. An upset, what a surprise!
