Ron Attends Things I Can’t Say Love Manila

So, anybody who knows me in real life knows that I also like going to concerts — when I can afford them — and I’ve been thinking about writing concert reviews since the time I watched the Enhypen concert in Pampanga

But various things happened in my real life that made it difficult to do that and by the time I had the opportunity to do so I either lacked the inclination or it was too far away from the event for it to matter.

However, it seems like i’ve hit the perfect combination of time and inclination to write about this OnlyOneOf concert that was recently held at the Teatrino in Greenhills!

To be frank, I wouldn’t consider myself a full-blown lyOn. I didn’t know as much as the other lyOns who were in attendance, but to their credit they were extremely welcoming and understanding about it. Or at least the lyOns I met were like that!

Because OnlyOneOf is a group from a smaller company and with a smaller audience, the ticket prices were a little more affordable for me so I was able to get tickets that included a fan sign, a hi-touch, and a group photo with the guys. This was going to be my first time doing these things so I was a mixture of excitement and fear because I am an old person who’s a little but insecure about meeting hot young guys. And yes I know how that sounds but I’m not changing it.

I arrived as early as I could at Teatrino where I hung out with some of the lyOns who were early birds as well and for the most part it was an enjoyable time waiting for the event to start. To be fair, it’s what usually happens at K-pop concerts but since lyOns are a smaller fandom, it was easier to talk to each other since the fandom isn’t big enough yet to get clique-y.

If there was anything that kind of soured the event was the fact that it wasn’t quite the most organized one, to be frank. At one point leading up to entering the venue, I actually had to help out the concert staff get the lines in order. Like…I did not pay money to organize the event myself? And I want to be fair to the organizers since from what I understand, they’re a very small operation and they actually only had volunteers and did not have paid professional staff.

If I look at it from a distance, it wasn’t as bad as one other more expensive K-pop concert that I went to that had paid professional staff. That concert literally had me lying down on the venue floor while waiting for the concert to start because I was bone tired and the concert hadn’t even started yet. Compared to that, this OnlyOneOf concert was a breeze.

But just like I told a friend of mine after that more expensive concert, how much longer are we going to let these concert organizers and promoters to get away with stuff like these? This is a spoiler, but OnlyOneOf were very nice and performed well and the audience had so much fun but it’s about time we stop forgetting disorganization like this just because the artists were so good to the audience.

And the boys were good, almost to a fault. Like I said, this was my first time attending a hi-touch and as it turned out it would also be my first time seeing up close how entitled and plain rude some fans can be to the artists they claim to like. There was this one East Asian fan who quite literally only acknowledged one of the members and pointedly ignored the rest, in front of everybody else in the audience. Teatrino Promenade is a small venue and just the audacity to be rude in front of people who can clearly see what you’re doing is just mindblowing to me. If I were the guys I would have expelled that rude “fan”.

Fortunately, the concert finally started after all the extra things were done and the guys finally got to do what they’re good at. I have to say, its been quite some time since I’e watched a concert in a small venue and it really does have its charms because it feels like the guys are right IN FRONT OF YOU even if you’re not a the front row because of the size of the venue. And they’re so tall and JunJi’s hand was so BIG and FIRM? KB was crazy in a good way? YooJung had this hilarious…standoff? I don’t know how to describe it? with someone in the front row? The guys really made sure that the audience got their money’s worth.

All in all, I enjoyed the concert and any negatives I ran into were none of the guys’ fault and more of the organizer’s.

ANYWAYS. Watch some of the videos I took below.
