This was supposed to have come out on Thursday but work just pummeled me and I wasn’t able to watch the episode. So here we I am now catching up!
The previous episode saw the Bangtan maknaes enjoy the sights and sounds of Jeju, with us the audience enjoying mukbangs, yacht rides, swimming pool foolishness, and water gun fights.
Today’s new episode is far, far away from the warm scenes of Jeju Island. At least far in terms of climate, because according to Google Sapporo is more or less just five hours away from Jeju. It’s the winter edition of Are You Sure?!
Jungkook and Jimin are flying together to Sapporo and I think they may even be seatmates if I’m seeing it correctly. We get a small interstitial scene where Jimin and Jungkook talk about wanting to return to Sapporo again after seven years away from it and man that must have been around the Run era.
And you should have expected this by now but watch Run on YouTube!
Stream the song too!
They arrive in Sapporo and I totally forgot that there were people waiting for them at the airport. What did we think they were up to at the time when this show wasn’t revealed yet?
After the airport gauntlet they arrive at their Sapporo accommodations and I gotta say it’s a lot simpler than I thought it would be, which just goes to show that I really shouldn’t be a celebrity or get my hands on a large amount of money because I’d probably spend it all in one sitting on an overpriced hotel stay or something.
At the hotel, the guys share one sausage — wink, wink, nudge, nudge — and its a salty one too. The trip is around the time Jimin was working on Who and he shared a funny story of kids from the “Smeraldo Marching Band” music video kept calling him Uncle despite him saying it’s okay to address him without honorifics. I sympathize, Jimin, but imagine how I feel since I’m an old and decrepit creature.
The boys decide to go down to the convenience store and my golly is Sapporo snowed in or what. I mean maybe it’s not snowed in, I’ve never actually seen snow but for a tropical guy like me it sure does seem like a lot of snow. And slippery ice, as Jungkook quickly discovers when he slips and falls and gets laughed at by Jimin.
They enter what is clearly a 7-11 and damn that’s the fanciest 7-11 I’ve seen? Maybe there are fancier ones but do remember I am a pewr from the ~Global South~. There’s so much stuff in it? The 7-11 near where I work is tiny and doesn’t have a lot in the way of offerings?
The guys discuss the merits of convenience store food and I have to stay, back when I was much younger and had a horrible few months at work where I had to stay overnight multiple times it was convenience store that saved me. I would never knock convenience store food, even from my ~Global South~ country.
They also start talking about the restaurant they went to before and I think it’s the one they went to in that G.C.F.? I’m not sure! But take a look at G.C.F. in Tokyo just the same.
We then get Jimin talking about how he only used to eat once a day to keep his figure, and boy I wish Korea didn’t have such a fucked-up view about appearances. It’s not like it doesn’t happen here in my corner of Southeast Asia, but it does seem even more vicious up there in Korea.
Jungkook also talk about a sweet letter he received from Namjoon and how he stayed and watched the whole Golden showcase. Oh, that was such a fun time before they had to go in and serve.
The next day the guys walk into what I think is a random ramen shop but you gotta think that the advance team went out and scouted that for them because there’s no way the two of them are just going into any old ramen store unannounced. Especially since they’re in Japan, where I think it’s reasonable to believe they’re more recognizable than they would be in the States. Although they did get recognized in the States.
So far, it’s all been very slice of life-y calm throughout the episode, but I do feel pangs of sadness when Jungkook talks about how he’s going to keep all of these memories once they start their military service. But let’s move past that for the moment and enjoy another mukbang from the guys, this time with spicy Japanese ramen.
After the ramen place they head on over to a coffee shop since they have close to an hour left before they need to get on a train to…somewhere else in Sapporo. Man I wish the trains here had as reliable a schedule as they do in Japan.
When we do get to the train station…it’s all animated, due to privacy issues. And maybe it’s just me being an old fart but god I wish we also had those rules here. The amount of times people have photographed or recorded people without their consent just to gain some internet clout is disgusting.
The boys finally arrive at their destination and we get the Jimin as a girl daddy clip that”s been making the rounds on Twitter. And as they get into the car they’re going to drive to their destination we also get to see that other clip that has been making the rounds on Twitter — JiKook appreciating Super Tuna.
It turns out their destination is a whisky distillery! A whisky distillery with a museum! And as much as I’m not a drinker, the museum does look great and seems thoughtfully laid out. Just like they did in the United States, the boys taste some whisky and Jungkook even buys some of them to take home.
As they make their way back to…their car, I guess? The guys engage in a snowball fight and I’m reminded of that snowball fight all the way back in 2016.
Anyways, turns out they weren’t headed back to their car but to another restaurant! As they eat their…lunch, I guess? Jimin revisits the dumpling incident once more, wondering why him and Taehyung fought so often and why over such petty reasons. It’s just the folly of youth, Jimin!
I’m also glad to hear that the guys — meaning BTS — have all emptied out all their anger and resentment from when they were younger. You guys have suffered through so much and it’s so heartwarming to hear that not only have you guys survived all of that, you’ve even moved past it.
