I’ve been missing some of the episodes of the shows I intended to blog about because it’s been a pretty hectic past few days for me, but I sure as hell will be making time for Agatha All Along after episode 5!
We finally got confirmation in the previous episode of what we knew all along — Teen is Billy Maximoff. Wiccan. Half of literally the first gay couple I read in Marvel Comics. And yes, there were earlier ones before them but they were the first ones where I could actually follow their story in real time.

Anyways, the new episode starts not on the Witches’ Road, but with Billy — Billy Kaplan, who just celebrated his Bar Mitzvah. And I feel so old because my first thought was that isn’t Joe Locke too old to play a 13-year-old but then my mind spirals back to the few moments I’ve encountered actual white 13-year-olds here and well…some of them look so much older than I did when I was 13.
I don’t know much about the Jewish faith other than what I’ve absorbed via osmosis from The Nanny — yes not the best source of Jewish theology — but I guess it’s okay to have a fortune teller there? I can just imagine the uproar if a tarot reader was present at a Catholic ceremony here.
And who do we have telling fortunes at Billy’s Bar Mitzvah but Lila Calderu herself! And can I just say I think they did a good job with giving this just the right spooky vibe? Not outright horror but enough of a chill for those looking for something horror-lite. Anways, Lila is spooked by what she sees in Billy’s future and she casts the sigil on him that’s been preventing everybody else from knowing who he is.
Billy’s Bar Mitzvah is cut short by the Scarlet Witch’s anomaly in Westview. So I’m guessing this is the episode where Wanda expands the hex? Or maybe not because I think what’s playing on the radio is from the black and white episode of Wandavision, which is the first episode? Or maybe not once again because Billy’s parents take note of the fact that the hex is getting smaller.
That moment of distraction results in the family getting into a car accident, which I’m guessing kills Billy Kaplan because how else would Billy Maximoff’s spirt be able to possess him? AND THEN WE SEE ALICE BEING THE POLICEWOMAN TO ASSIST THEM. MY GHAD.
Of course, Billy Maximoff doesn’t know anything about Billy Kaplan’s life, but he does have the advantage/disadvantage of being able to read minds. He knows that Billy Kaplan’s parents are worried about what they think is their son, and since is the first project by Joe Locke that I’ve seen in full I gotta applaud him for that scene where Billy Kaplan’s parent’s thoughts overwhelm him. He goes up to William Kaplan’s room and in what I am assuming is foreshadowing does the manifestation thing that Billy learned to do in the comics so he could cast spells.
Three years later and the Billy Kaplan/Maximoff mix is making out with Eddie and it’s a sweet little scene because aside from the making out it seems like Eddie is understanding when it comes to Billy Kaplan/Maximoff’s situation. Billy Kaplan/Maximoff shows him what he’s compiled about that day of the car accident and we get to see a little peek of Jen on Billy Kaplan/Maximoff’s laptop. But what’s important is that Billy has found someone that is willing to talk about the events in Westview and it’s…Ralph Bohner. Evan Peters!
I really like how Ralph’s recollection of his time in Westview is both horrific and hilarious. There were parts where I felt a little bad laughing but what can I do, it’s funny! But aside from that, Ralph finally tickles a memory in Billy Kaplan/Maximoff’s brain — Billy and Tommy, Wanda’s kids.
Ralph’s revelations push Billy Kaplan/Maximoff to do even more research, with a “coincidence” — is anything really coincidental when it comes to Billy Maximoff? — finally pushing him to go to Westview and look for Agatha Harkness.
THEN we get the events of episode 1 through Billy Kaplan/Maximoff’s eyes and it’s hilarious.I kinda what a featurette or extra showing just how crazy Agatha has been acting in the three years she’s been under Wanda’s spell.
After that recap, we finally barrel back to the present on the Witches’ Road, where Agatha has managed to pull herself out of the mud and she and Billy have a magical confrontation. Or at least try to have one, because it looks like Billy doesn’t have a handle on his powers yet. However, Agatha has figured out that Billy is looking for Tommy and is also very aware that Billy does not trust her. Let’s see how this turns out!
