Ron Watches Drag Race España Season 4 Episode 9

We’re finally down to five queens and that crown is getting closer and closer. Let’s jump right into the episode!

Megui sashayed away in the previous episode and the girls are more emotional than usual. There’s even tears in the confessional! But as Vampirashian points out as well, it leaves Le Coco the only “survivor” of the “weird” queens clique from earlier in the season. And yes they’re all supportive of each other now but Le Coco isn’t about to let them kick her out of the competition just yet.

The next day, the queens get a literal quiz on Spanish LGBTQIA+ history as the mini challenge and Le Coco is the first one to be eliminated, which I am taking as a bad omen of her sashaying away in this episode.

Vampirashian ends up winning the mini challenge and now she has the power to pair the queens with their makeover partners. Yes, today is the makeover challenge but in a really exciting twist, the queens will have to adapt to the style of their “drag mothers”, iconic drag artists from Spain’s LGBTQIA+ history. This is a really great twist to this challenge and I hope other franchises follow when appropriate!

Right off the bat, Le Coco is presented with a difficult challenge, as the queen she is paired with brought an outfit given to her by Shirley Bassey. Le Coco has to match that essence while mixing her essence with that as well. That sentence made it sound like Le Coco is Dehaka from Starcraft II but you guys get what I mean.

Mariana, on the other hand, seems to have a better time with the queen paired with her. She feels like she can do something with the dress her queen brought with her so I’m looking forward to what she comes up with!

Another one that production seems to want to paint as in trouble this episode is Chloe, who admits in the confessional that she’s afraid of sewing again and that she found the sewing in the first episode intense. Let’s see if she ends up in the bottom again this week.

On the day of the Maxi Challenge, Vampirashian takes the stage first and I think she does a good job with her outfit! She and Sergio Satnassa really do look like a mother and daughter situation. I didn’t like Mariana’s and La Niña’s looks, but then again I’m no Ana Locking so maybe I’m the one in the wrong.

Le Coco’s outfit looks better than she made it sound, but I think Vampirashian is going to take the win on this one. Chloe’s look is…well it was a look. Sorry, it didn’t work for me!

I know this is self-serving but when Ana said Mariana’s look didn’t stand out as much I kinda felt a little proud of myself? Maybe I finally am getting some taste? The judges liked La Niña’s outfit thought so maybe I shouldn’t be too cocky. Le Coco’s look also doesn’t get the best reviews, which really just convinces me that she’s the one going home this episode. Chloe gets snaps and okay maybe I just don’t have a fashion eye.

It looks like it’s going to be a Chloe win and a Mariana and Le Coco lip sync, but before we get to that we have to go through the “What would you say to litte so-and-so” segment of the competition. Sorry, but I’ve never liked this shtick in any of the franchises!

Chloe gets her first win, money, and a European tour for her and La Patrick, her paired queen. Chloe is also part of the top four, along with La Niña and Vampirashian. Le Coco and Mariana are in the bottom two and when the lip sync starts I gotta admit the camerawork was a little too frenetic so I couldn’t really get a sense of which one of them performed well. But Le Coco survives and is part of the top four!
