Brand new season! I mean, brand new for me. Let’s get into it!
At the end of season one, Simon has had enough of being Wilhelm’s little secret and has set his boundaries. Wilhelm realizes that maybe his family, specifically his mother, doesn’t love him as much as she loves the institutions she’s grown up in.
In this first episode of the second season, we get close-ups of Wilhelm and Simon making out and I am scandalized. It’s all in Wilhelm’s head, of course. He’s dreaming the things he did with Simon before he had to give him up to wake up in his bed in the royal palace. We also find out that August has been apologizing to Simon constantly on the phone and Wilhelm is not having it. Good on you, Wilhelm!
Wilhelm walks into his dead brother’s room and I know this is such a stupid thing to notice but how long was the break between seasons? Because the queen is thinner. Anyways, Wilhelm isn’t having any of her either and good. on. you. Get these toxic people out of your life! Then we get this poignant moment of Wilhelm putting on Erik’s coat and trying to get some comfort from it. He also burns off August’s face from a picture he has with Erik and then he looks at the camera. We’re fully into season two now!
Back at Hillerska, August is looking at the message Wilhelm sent him and Wilhelm is not happy, to say the least. He’s saying he’s going to make August’s life a living hell! Let’s see how that turns out in this new season.
Meanwhile, Sara is finally accepted as a boarder at Hillerska, which is all well and good but who is this strapping Swede named Marcus that she’s brought with her? He’s a senior at the town school annnndddd it seems like he might be into Simon. He invites him to karaoke night and asks to be added on Instagram and Simon, baby. Marcus wants you.
Elsewhere in Sweden, Felice has become Wilhelm’s best girl friend, essentially. He’s ranting to her about August asking to be forgiven and they’re going to meet up at school to talk all about making August pay. So happy to see Felice having a better time now than in the previous season.
The students are back in Hillerska and in much the same way that the boys’ house has an initiation rite, the girls have their own version too. I just hope spit isn’t involved because I’m just not into that. What it involves, it turns out, is Sara having to sneak into the senior party and doing whatever she can to get it to stop. This is going to be trouble.
Over at the senior party, August is doing all he can to not crack under the pressure of everything. You did this to yourself, kiddo! He goes into the party and people are talking about their trips and having sex in the Seychelles and I feel the revolutionary fervor burning in my heart as a person living in the exploited ~Global South~. That burning apparently transmitted itself to Sara because she starts a fire.
DID SOMEBODY SAY FIRE?
Check it out on Spotify as well!
Simon finds out about it on Instagram — you can post these things on Instagram? — and because Ayub and Rosh aren’t available, he’s ~forced~ to contact Marcus and ask him for a ride to the party venue. And wouldn’t you know it Marcus is available to ride him. I mean give him a ride.
While all of that is happening, Wilhelm just arrives at Hillerska, all the while still avoiding talking to his mother. Felice gives him a drunken call not exactly telling him what’s happening but she does tell him that this is the perfect opportunity to mess with August.
Simon, meanwhile, is getting into Marcus’ car and Marcus tells Simon that he could at least sit in the front seat since he isn’t a taxi and a guy used that on my in college once and I know that it wasn’t meant to be flirty but I was all ~oh my yes I will sit in the front seat~. But Marcus is definitely flirting.
Both Wilhelm and Simon arrive at the senior party at the same time but go in through different entrances. Simon sneaks in while Wilhelm, since he’s a ~bad boy~ now, he totally holds everything August has done in the first season over his head. And I think we shouldn’t forget the fact that Wilhelm is basically funding August’s last year at Hillerska, essentially! Wilhelm telling August to tell him what to do and see what happens? I love it when the richies fight amongst themselves!
Wilhelm gets into the party and then he sees Simon looking for Sara and it’s all so deliciously awkward, Wilhelm tries to get Simon’s attention and keep it on him but unfortunately, Simon has to ride Marcus back home. I mean Simon needs Marucs to get back home.
And I am gooped and gagged when one of August’s friends is the one to tell Wilhelm about who Marcus is because Marcus found him on Grindr. Apparently Marcus doesn’t like boarding school boys and likes ’em townies. I’m just awed that Grindr still wasn’t charging people up the wazoo two years ago. Wilhelm is also called out for being old-fashioned and August’s friend even tells him to call him if he needs a discreet hook-up because he can arrange it. My god kids these days!
The next day, Wilhelm finds out that he has to deliver a speech during the school anniversary, with his mom there to join the festivities. It’s going to be Wilhelm’s first time to deliver a public speech! Turns out it’s what the queen wanted to talk about with him, and okay. Fine. Wasn’t entirely her fault but can you blame Wilhelm for not wanting to talk to her?
We also find out that Simon is late — I thought he just didn’t participate in the school choir this school year — and Rosh and Ayub poke a little fun at him when he talks about Marcus riding him. I mean giving him a ride. Rosh and Ayub also support his avoid Wilhelm at all costs plan because Wilhelm did break his word to Simon. Rosh even suggests Simon rebound with Marcus!
Back at Hillerska, August and Wilhelm find out that Alexander is back and we as an audience also find out that Hillerska is headed towards dire financial straits, which is maybe why they were squeezing August for his tuition. Enrollment has not been increasing and Wilhelm’s sex tape hasn’t helped. But I don’t think Wilhelm really cares about that right now because he’s intent on taking away everything August ever loved. Again, I love it when the richies fight!
In the school canteen, the gossip is delicious. Erik was with an OnlyFans girl? But what Sara is more concerned about is how expensive being a boarder actually is. Shes only got 300 kroner left in her account! Should have stayed at home with your mom and Simon!
Talking about Simon, he also gets a surprise as it turns out he’s going to be singing a solo during the school anniversary celebration, a performance that his teacher hopes opens doors for him. He’s going to sing a new version of the school song and I’m so happy Simon’s got a supportive teacher! But that’s something he’ll have to celebrate later on because now he has a class with Wilhelm and Wilhelm, baby. You can do better at the winning him back stuff!
What Wilhelm is exceptionally good at is exacting revenge. He’s the perfect person to do it too because he’s got the literal class advantage. He has the social capital and the literal capital to break all the traditions that August holds dear. DELICIOUS.
In what looks to be the new conflict for this season, Sara and August have an intense discussion in some wooded part of Hillerska, since August thinks it was Sara who told Wilhelm about him uploading the sex video. Sara calms him down in much the same way that she calms the horse and it’s so easy to make a riding joke here. We also find out that there’s a Royal Court that could punish August for what he did and are we going to get court intrigue as well?
While that is happening, Simon finally gets to talk with Wilhelm. And he makes great points! Wilhelm hurt him and he does need that space to recuperate. Unfortunately, I am not like Simon because when a cute boy makes eyes at me and asks me what he can do to make things right I will immediately fold.
BUT THEN AGAIN, if I had Marcus singing cutely at me and with me during karaoke night maybe I’d find inner fortitude and strength. And then Wilhelm finds out about Simon and Marcus’ karaoke date where they’re looking so couple-y? I CACKLED. I mean the fact that you had your notifications on not even for Simon but for Ayub? Wilhelm you are down bad. And the fact that the anger is immediately redirected to August? And then to his mom? RICH PEOPLE FIGHT!!!!
