Oh my god I now get to watch this on the actual day of release. Let’s get right into it!
At the end of the last episode, we find that things may actually be even worse between Vanessa and Fisk, as Vanessa sends a man to kill him while he’s eating dinner. Or did she knowingly send the man to his death because he was threatening Fisk’s position as mayor? Maybe this episode will shed some clarity on that!
There might not be any clarity on that until much later because this episode starts with Bullseye in prison, looking out at the yard and the prison guards keeping watch. It looks like Bullseye is being transfered somewhere…and that somewhere is general population. Now I don’t know a lot about the American prison system but I do now that for some prisoners, general population is the worst thing that could happen to them. At least that’s what the television shows tell me!
And it looks like we might get clarity on the Vanessa-Fisk situation earlier than I thought we would because the two of them are talking about Fisk’s Redhook project, which apparently has found the public and private funding it needs to push through. Vanessa did send that guy to his death! And it looks like Fisk is going to give her something to show his appreciation.
Elsewhere in New York, Matt is staring forlornly outside his apartment window. His girlfriend is experiencing guilt at what she’s done to Muse and if I remember correctly, she is also Latina so she might be feeling that same delicious strain of Roman Catholic guilt that Matt has. But she also inadvertently takes a jab at Matt when she says Muse and Daredevil are just “underdeveloped boys” trying to make violence look more sophisticated. Oh my god is she talking about the Netflix Devil May Cry?
But before Matt can mount a defense of Daredevil’s character, Fisk’s right hand man makes an appearance at the door, looking for his girlfriend. I don’t know about Matt but this seems like a threat.
Fisk also looks like he maybe making a threat towards Vanessa because he’s taking her to where he’s kept Adam prisoner for god knows how long. I don’t know how Vanessa is going to take this but it’s safe to say that she’s not going to take it well. And because I’m an idiot it’s only know that I realize that the bruises and wounds on Fisk’s hands that the show has focused on throughout the season came from him beating up the poor guy.
And it looks like Fisk and Matt are both having women problems. Fisk is the more obvious one, of course, but Matt is also experiencing some friction with his girlfriend who is now looking to support Fisk’s anti-vigilante stance. It looks like Matt’s relationship is on shakier ground, though, because Vanessa kills Adam and reaffirms her loyalty and…love?…for Fisk.
Matt isn’t just having personal problems, though. At his law firm, the Madison case he is wroking on has hit a snag as they are being stonewalled from acquiring necessary financial documents. I don’t know how correct these legal things are as I am not a lawyer but they do sound convincing! But it’s not just that Matt has to worry about. Bullseye apparently wants to talk to him and neither he nor his partner know why. The only thing they know is that Fisk made the decision to move Bullseye from solitary confinement to general population.
Fisk is also feeling very good about himself right now, what with Vanessa sticking with him and vigilante crime down by 30 percent, even if the ACLU is filing lawsuit after lawsuit because of the task force’s excessive methods. It’s sounding a little too on the nose when you look at American news nowadays but it’s horrifying to realize that American reality is so much worse than it is on this show. Fisk even promotes Daniel to Deputy Mayor for Communications and it’s all sounding very DOGE-y.
Over at Matt’s law office, we finally get to see who this Madison person is and maybe it’s just because of the recent news but it’s very much giving tech bro. The man is insufferable and Matt loses it and his law firm partner has to ask him what the fuck is going on and Matt finally lets out the injustice of it all, such as his client back in episode four getting sent to prison for stealing caramel corn and Hector Ayala being killed by abusive cops. I guess I should have trusted the show to pay off that moment from episode four rather than whine about it!
Matt steps out of his office for a but and finds himself at Josie’s, which looks like it still hasn’t fixed itself after Bullseye’s attack in episode one. Matt is starting to think that there may be a connection between Fisk and Bullseue’s attack back in the first episode, but Cherry is trying to disabuse him of that notion. But the mention of Foggy celebrating his apparent victory on a legal case with a drink sparks something in Matt’s mind that has him out of Josie’s and maybe looking for evidence.
That spark of inspiration takes him to Bullseye and after a terse conversation Matt slams Bullseye’s face into the table. We even get a fuck you! I don’t know what Bullseye or Fisk is planning but I think Matt being too emotional about this is going to cost him later down the line.
After all the violence we’ve seen, the show takes us to the upper-up of New York to Fisk’s Black and White Ball. Daniel is there, of course, but so is BB Urich and I guess Daniel is trying to smooth things over after threatening here in the previous episode. Is this going to be a repeat of what happened to Ben Urich? Because this actress hasn’t even appearead that much on the show for her to be killed off!
Elsewhere in the party, the snotty rich lady from episode four isn’t so snotty anymore and the show pretty much tells the audience that Fisk did something to her husband. Matt is not at this shinding and his girlfriend is feeling some type of way about.
Fisk and Vanessa finally make their appearance at the ball and Vanessa is looking cunt because she’s the only one in a red gown and with Fisk in white, the two of them recall that “Rabbit in a Snowstorm” painting with that splatter of blood on it.
Matt’s anger at Bullseye earlier in the episode now bears fruit because one of Bullseye’s teeth has apparently been dislodged and now he’s used that as a weapon to start a series of events that ends with him escaping from prison. I sorta kinda wish that they still had Elektra just for kicks.
Matt finally makes it to the Black and White Ball and definitely ruins his relationship beyond repair when he listens in on Fisk’s conversation rather than his girlfriend’s concerns about their relationship. But to be fair, the conversations Fisk is having is much more interesting!
BB Urich, meanwhile, is making me nervous because she is poking at areas where she really shouldn’t be. I mean it is her job as a journalist to do that but I don’t want her character to die! But it really just seems like she has a death wish. If she must, she must.
Another person in this party that has a death wish is Matt, who brings his girlfriend along with him to confront Fisk. Or at least, tries to do so but Vanessa has got eagle eyes and starts her and Fisk’s first dance to avoid the confrontation from happening.
But maybe Vanessa was worried about the wrong man because Bullseye has made his way to the Black and White Ball disguised as a cop and he’s going to kill Vanessa. As it turns out, it wasn’t Fisk who hired Bullseye to kill Foggy. It was Vanessa, since she was the one in charge at the time. Fuck.
BUT I WAS WRONG IT WAS FISK HE WAS TARGETTING. AND MATT JUMPS IN FRONT OF THE BULLET. FUCK.
