Ron Watches Young Royals Season 3 Episode 5

Oh my goodness, it’s been a minute since I watched the previous episode, but I literally have not been all right in the head the past few weeks, and work has not been helping. But I’m going to push through with this one, because I am desperate.

Okay, when did this party happen? There are condoms in champagne flutes, I think? The whole place is trashed. Is this the same party place from season one? Or is this all just in Wilhelm’s head?

We then get back to what I assume is the present, where they are in what I assume is a literature class, and somebody is delivering a book report. Wilhelm is still out of it because of August’s revelation from the previous episode, and is seeing August in a maybe new light.

Let me interject here and say that what August went through is horrible, but that doesn’t excuse all the scummy stuff he did in previous seasons. It explains it, but it doesn’t absolve him of what he’s done either.

Anyways, Simon is noticing that something is off about Wilhelm, but Wilhelm isn’t opening up about his feelings, so how can Simon help him out? Nick and Charlie over there at Heartstopper are talking about their feelings, maybe try it out!

Back to August, he’s questioning Vincent’s plan of having an ~awards night~ that’s less than politically correct, to say the least. He doesn’t try hard enough to stop them, though, and instead shares that he won’t be part of the party anyway since he’ll be at the castle with Wilhelm to celebrate his birthday.

At the girls’ dorm, Sara and Felice are grouped together for the third years’ dinner party, since the first years will be the ones serving them. Felice seems to be okay with working with her, but let’s see if that’s actually going to happen.

Sara, on the other hand, is very suspicious of her father’s sudden productivity and better mood. He’s at least forthright with her, telling her that it’s because of the new medication that he’s on, and tells her that he’s going to see the doctor in a month to see if he should continue being on whatever new medication he’s on now.

Back in Hillerska, August puts a letter in Sara’s locker. I think this is the same letter from the second season. He probably does have a chance with her, still, because he’s the only one that is making an effort to be nice to Sara.

Elsewhere in Hillerska, Wilhelm calls his father. After asking about his mother, he asks about Erik and whether he had any weaknesses, but it’s hard to speak ill of the dead, especially when they die young. Wilhelm can’t even tell his father that Erik wasn’t as perfect as he looked. Also, that one tear falling? Edvin Ryding, how’d you know I like that so much?

Wilhelm learning what he’s learned about his brother is having an unexpected effect on his relationship with Simon. He’s starting to become detached to life at Hillerska, but what Simon is getting is that Wilhelm doesn’t want to be with him anymore. But at least, it finally leads to Wilhelm sharing what he knows with Simon.

Wilhelm lashes out at Simon for a bit, but thankfully, Simon is mature and understanding about it, and is actually giving Erik more grace than Wilhelm is giving his own brother. Unfortunately, Wilhelm isn’t as mature about the situation as Simon is, and it really must be true love for Simon to still be sticking around for him. That royal dick really does the trick!

Elsewhere in Hillerska, Sara finds the letter August left for her. What she’s not finding is her father, who is late picking her up and is not answering the phone. He’s either relapsed, or has gotten into a terrible accident that will bring the siblings together to finally patch up their differences. This is the penultimate episode of the season, after all!

Now that he’s pushed Simon away, Wilhelm is getting a manicure from Felice, and I’m sorry, but the first thing that came to mind is Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge in Legally Blonde.

Sara finally gets to her driving test, no thanks to her dad, and it’s during this very same driving test that she sees her father indeed relapsing, having a drink with his friend and totally forgetting the promise he made to her. I hope this doesn’t cost her the license!

Over at Simon’s home, he’s telling his mother about his worries about his relationship with Wilhelm, especially after the fight they’ve had. Simon’s mother delivers a heavy blow in response. She thinks Wilhelm’s a nice guy and that they can’t do anything about the way his life is, but love isn’t supposed to be this hard, especially when they’re literal teenagers. He does get a little bit of light, as Sara returns home after being let down by her dad again. Simon finally forgives her, and that’s at least one emotional weight lifted from his shoulders.

And it looks like a text sent by Wilhelm has also solved the little tiff they had, as Simon is in his room early in the morning to sing “Happy Birthday” to him. He and Simon, along with August, head to the palace to celebrate his birthday. There’s some schmoozing to be done at the foundation launch, and while all of that is happening, Simon is at the sidelines. I don’t think the royal court is utilizing Simon to the fullest, because if they were smart, he could revamp and revitalize the image of the royal family. But then again, as evidenced by how Meghan Markle was treated, maybe royal families are just too staunchly conservative for them to consider this.

After the schmoozing, Wilhelm and Simon head on over to the royal palace without August, as Wilhelm has issued an ultimatum that either August goes or he goes, and it’s August that goes. However, neither of them have a great time. Wilhelm continues to feel the comparisons to Erik, while August is crashing out, as the young people say, at the graduation party. At least the girls are getting along fine, and by girls I mean Sara and Felice. They finally talk without any animosity between them in the kitchen.

As both parties go on, things start looking up for August. He gets to talk with Sara outside, and we get to hear his ~tragic backstory~, so to speak. But like I said several paragraphs before, that doesn’t excuse all the scummy stuff he did in previous seasons. It explains it, but it doesn’t absolve him of what he’s done either. Sure, he’s sorry for what he’s done, but there’s still work to be done to undo what he’s…uh…done. As he’s enjoying a sweet moment with Sara, one of Felice’s friends sees it, and of course she reports back to Felice.

Back at the palace, there are no sweet moments being had, as Wilhelm continues to lash out at Simon when who he really wants to lash out at is his family and his mom, if he’s being honest with his feelings. And maybe I shouldn’t have said that because he finally lashes out and while it’s long overdue, goodness gracious, Simon is traumatized. I mean, Wilhelm definitely had points, and I’ve been against his mother from the very beginning, but Simon didn’t have to be in the mix of all of that.

And the bad night isn’t over for Wilhelm, because Simon has finally had it.

He breaks up with Wilhelm, and oh boy has he picked the worst time to do so.

This is a new addition to the posts, but if any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
