It’s the final episode! Now there’s just the movie left!
Nick and Charlie finally have sex in the previous episode, which is a perfect jumping point for any conflicts that will probably happen in the movie. But for now, what we get is a little after-sex talk, where Nick says he loved every second of what just happened. Which is pretty nice for someone who just had sex for the first time because it’s not pretty nice for a lot of people!
The ~romantic mood~ is spoiled a little when Charlie finds out that Nick has been looking at universities outside of their hometown. Nick says he’s looking to stay local, but his eyes say that he’s considering that rugby scholarship in the University of Leeds. Now that is a future point of conflict.
When Charlie finally comes back home — in Nick’s clothes, because you gotta make your mom know you’re a ho — he and his mother finally have a heart-to-heart, with her explaining that she’s may be just like her own mother, while he reassures her that she hasn’t become her mother and accepting the compromise that the sleepover with Nick can happen after the GCSEs. Of course, Charlie would compromise since he already got dicked down. Also, this was a much more successful mother-son talk compared to Young Royals.
Nick finally goes on that university tour with Tara, Imogen, and Elle, and…it was kinda disappointing for me. In the book, I thought all the university touring would be “in service of the show and for future beautiful shots of these locations”, and we didn’t get a lot of that! That said, it does have a great moment for Imogen, who is right on the very edge of coming out.
They also talk about the ~uni experience~ and I just am fascinated about the whole gap year idea, and how much of a privilege it is for someone to just spend a year traipsing around. And yes, I know that these kids are middle class or lower in the United Kingdom, but people from the ~Global South~ can’t afford to spend a year traipsing around. If they’re not going to university, they’re going to work.
Back in…wherever Charlie is, he’s getting nervous about the upcoming gig he’s playing with Sahar’s band. There’s something a little foreboding about Charlie being all sentimental with Tao and Isaac, but that’s probably me reading too much into things because there was nothing of the sort in the book. We also find out that the song he’s practicing with Sahar’s band is about Imogen, so are we still going to see another lesbian couple form on the show?
Over at the University of Leeds, it looks like the sight of a gay rugby player has enticed him to study there. Meanwhile, Charlie is back at the therapist’s, talking about how his relationship with Nick is stronger now, and that he’s realized Nick isn’t the only person he can turn to when things get bad, but will he still be saying the same things when Nick says he wants to study in Leeds, which the show helpfully shows is four hours away? Meanwhile, us in the ~Global South~ thinking four hours is nothing.
Nick does have really valid feelings about moving away from Charlie. Aside from having to deal with a long distance relationship if he does go to Leeds, he’s also unsure of who he is without Charlie, because throughout the series Nick has always been subsumed by the people that surround him.
This becomes more evident when they’re stuck in a traffic jam, and it’s starting to look like he won’t make it to Charlie’s gig. He’s worried that Charlie needs him, and as it turns out, Charlie does perfectly fine even without him there. Also, it’s so ~funny~ how if you said stuck in traffic over here, people will understand immediately and not take it against you.
This is a new addition to the posts, but if any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
