Truth be told, I didn’t know of Joong Archen and Dunk beforehand, other than Joong always being that shirtless guy showing up on Twitter and also making an appearance on ThamePo Heart That Skips a Beat. But I had a chance to meet them last year, along with First and Khaotung, and I gotta say I was thoroughly charmed by Joong and Dunk. They even told me about this new show, which I meant to watch as it aired but life got in the way. But I’m catching up now!
We are starting off strong as we see a group of people doing drugs. They’re also playing truth or dare, but so far nobody’s choosing either. And as so happens when it comes to drug-crazed parties, someone gets in trouble. Or in this case, someone dies. But we don’t know yet what happens after that!
The next scene is someone running after a “brat”, and I gotta say this shot is a bit more adventurous than what I’ve seen from these Thai BLs so far. Not that I’ve seen every single one, but there hasn’t been a month so far where I haven’t seen at least one. Anyways, the one chasing is Joong’s character, Jade. He’s chasing after what looks like a teen who’s got drugs with him, and I know that this is unfair to the show, but the whole scene where he threatens the kid with a gun is too reminiscent of the drug war killings over here. So many kids like that got gunned down here, so I can’t help but feel a little put off by this whole thing.
Jade then gets a call from a fellow officer, who tells him that the commander wants him to look into the death we saw earlier. One of the kids is the son of a politician, and again, it’s feeling very much like the drug war situation over here as well. As he makes his way to the crime scene, he gets into a little tiff with a driver who, quite honestly, is driving horribly on the road. And wouldn’t you know it, that driver is Dunk’s character, Kamin. Of course, there’s the requisite tension-filled first encounter, and it’s really clear that the two of them have worked together before because the spark between the two of them is there. And of course they get to stare each other down once they find out that they’re working the same case.
We soon find out the clear differences between the two. Jade is more of a roguish, fly by the seat of his pants police officer, while Kamin is more of a by the book type. Recognizable archetypes, for sure, but if it ain’t broke, why fix it? Jade wants to compete and see which one of them solves the crime first, and Kamin says that he’s never lost. The show adds an electricity crackling effect just to make sure that the audience gets that there’s ~tension~ between the two.
Further heightening the tension between the two is that Jade’s brother is one of the suspects, which means that Jade can’t be involved in the investigation. It also gives the show a lot of opportunities to have Joong and Dunk’s faces close to each other, which I’m not complaining about.
I also want to take a little detour here and say that the cameras for this show aren’t doing their faces justice? They look so much more handsome in person when I saw them in person last year. Dunk, especially. Or maybe it’s the lighting? Either way, they gotta get either a better camera or a better lighting set-up. But I do like the editing and transitions they’re making, which I haven’t seen in previous Thai BLs I’ve watched recently
Kamin starts interrogating the kids, and as is usually the case, the kids start turning against each other. That said, there’s no clear suspect when it comes to the death, and it’s also impeded by the fact that the suspect with a politician father is sprung out of there by his politician father. This literally could have happened here. We truly are SEAblings.
It’s a good thing one of the suspects is Jade’s brother, bevause now they’re sort of continuing the interrogation in a more casual manner. We find out a little more about the cracks in the friendships of the suspects, but nothing to crack the case with.
Back at the police station, there’s more tension between Jade and Kamin. There’s also more work being given to Kamin, and I don’t know if that’s going to matter further down the line or they just added that so that Dunk could say that line about not giving up.
Somebody who’s definitely thinking of giving up is Tar, one of the suspects and the one who was sniffing cocaine while the whole thing went down. He’s gotten a card from the politician’s son — Champ — but we as an audience don’t get to see what’s in that card right now.
Back at the police station, Jade and Kamin figure out that the drugs might be coming from a bar called Drink Me, a location Jade got from the earlier suspect he caught before getting called to the case that he and Kamin are now both working on. Drink Me is…well, let’s just say that maybe the budget wasn’t big enough for extras. And I’ve been to bars in Thailand, this is far from what the bars there are like. Or at least the bars in Bangkok I went to.
The next day, Jade has got his nipples out because who the hell dressed him like this. Those nipples are hard and poking through the fabric.
But it wasn’t just his nipples he was displaying on this particular trip. Seeing as he’s spent all his time in Thailand and didn’t spend time abroad like Kamin, he’s got his local sources, and this particular one has got him photos of the possible drug dealer. Hard nipples.
Later that night, the two of them enter the club, and in the interest of ~blending in~, Jade is all over Kamin’s personal space. Kamin’s a neat freak though, and isn’t all too thrilled about getting kissed in the cheek. But I’m sure as the series progresses, he’ll get used to…ehem…~sticky situations~.
And that sticky situation starts now, as one of the bar patrons wants Kamin to sit with them since he’s single. Jade immediately pulls Kamin to him and of course they’re practically kissing. Jade shows off his penis gun to scare off the other guy and Kamin is indignant, he can look out for himself, but wouldn’t it be nice to just let the hot guy have you in his arms? Loosen up a little, Kamin. There’s also that line “If I let you handle it, are you sure you can?” that I am interpreting as Jade telling Kamin he’s got a monster cock that Kamin can’t possibly handle.
The guy they’re looking for finally arrives, and after a little kabedon action and some backup, they sorta arrest the drug dealer. I say sorta because one little guy causes a ruckus and the dealer almost manages to escape despite the amount of policemen in the room. Kamin manages to catch him though, with help from Jade.
Okay, another thing I’m noticing, why do Joong and Dunk never look eye to eye when they’re face to face? They’re both always looking past each other. I mean, the side profiles are delicious, but why can’t they just look each other in the eyes? Just curious. Is it a technical thing? Something to do with blocking and lighting?
After that assignment, Kamin drives Jade to his house, because he’s not about to let Jade drunk after he’s had a drink. Kamin is staying in a fancy place, and Jade is wondering why he’s been taken here rather than his home. Is it because Kamin wants to take him to a room where there are no others? Also, where is Human Resources because can a boss and his subordinate fraternize like this?
The night ends with Jade drunk, which of course lets us see some drunken flirting from Jade. Kamin doesn’t reciprocate, but I’m pretty sure that’s going to change down the line.
If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
