Ron Watches Dare You to Death Episode 8

Would you look at that, me actually catching up. I’m going to watch episode nine at the same time as everybody else!

At the end of the previous episode, Kamin implied that he’s got a troubled past that he hopes Jade will look past. But that really has to wait because the two of them just got a Truth or Dare card, which means that one of them might die or get seriously hurt.

This episode opens with the three remaining members of the gang. Cherreen and Champ are planning to visit Jay, although Champ is definitely going to sacrifice Cherreen, either to the cops or the killer. Jay has snuck out of his hospital room to talk with Champ and Chereen, and it’s looking very much like Chereen is going to be the next target. Jay notices that there isn’t a Dare letter included, which I am guessing that Champ hid. Naturally, the friends are suspicious of each other, or at least Champ and Jay are. It’s Chereen who tries to remind everyone that they should be more worried about keeping themselves alive instead.

Back at Jade’s home, Kamin is smoking and drinking, so you know he’s serious about whatever it is he’s anxious about. We then find out Kamin’s ~dark past~. A moment of carelessness on the job results in the death of one of the members of his team. Now, I don’t want to diminish the importance of someone’s team member dying in the line of fire, but this show has barely established the closeness, much less the relationship, between Jack and Kamin. Maybe it’s more articulated in the book this is based on. But if they’d just sprinkled Jack throughout the show, this death would have landed better. And it doesn’t need to be too much! They could do it the same way they did with Jade and Yu’s past. But learning of Jack and then getting rid of Jack in literal minutes on the show? The audience isn’t going to care.

Anyways, because of that traumatic past, Kamin wants Jade to withdraw from the case, because he might be too focused on Jade and his safety to do his job properly. He even tries to pull rank on Jade, which, of course, doesn’t end well. Jade is still angry about it the next day, but immediately folds when Kamin calls him his boyfriend. Believable, I guess. Dunk is really attractive in person!

At the police headquarters, Kamin and Jade are given evidence that connects Champ to Seon Jae. The lead is still tenuous, but they’re told that if they get Champ’s phone, they’re going to have a stronger case. But before we get to working on that, Kamin and Jade have to reconcile, and they do it over boxing. Jade reassures Kamin that he’s not like Jack, which just tells me that he’s going to get shot either in this episode or the next. Also, the guy being named Jack reminded me of this.

After their little flirty boxing exercise, the guys get multiple messages. One is from the policeman guarding Jay, who tells Jade that he snuck off to meet with Cherreen and Champ. The other is from another officer who tells them that Seon Jae is about to leave the country. The guys decide to prioritize Seon Jae first because the evidence points to the killer being one of his clients.

While they go and do that, Champ and Cherreen are off to another part of the country, ostensibly to hide, but Cherreen is starting to realize that Champ won’t have any qualms sacrificing her to save his own skin. Or at least I thought she was wising up. But just a few words from Champ calms her down. Is the dick that good?

Meanwhile, the raid on Seon Jae’s hideout goes…well? Seon Jae is killed, at least. But will that help them find out who the killer is? Maybe, but first we’re served scenes of Kamin and Jade flirting with each other again. They also talk about what they’re going to do since Kamin’s firearm killed Seon Jae, despite Jade being the one who fired it, and for a moment, I feel sad because the policemen over here aren’t held accountable. Especially during the drug war years.

ANYWAYS, sorry for bringing the real world in. Back to the show! The guys are told the next day at the police headquarters that Seon Jae and Champ only had one drug deal. BUT, they do find out that the ketamine drug deals were happening over at Tonkla’s dorm. But while they’re contemplating that possible lead, they find the coroner who did the autopsy on Fai’s body waiting for them, with a toxicology report that says no ketamine was found in her system. He also hesitates when asked to bring Fai’s body so it can be lined up with the other victims, so is this my guess being proven right? Is Fai the killer and I just got the coroner wrong?

Elsewhere in Thailand, Cherreen is worried that her and Champ’s plan to study in the United Kingdom might not come true. Baby. Honey. I think there are other things you should be worried about. Like the fact that Champ is spiking your drink while you’re in the shower. You in danger, Cher!

Turns out the Dare card Champ received ordered him to drug Cherreen and bring her to a specified location. Unbeknownst to him, though, is that his car has been tampered with. Something is coming out of the air conditioning that is making him sleepy, which leads to him getting into a car accident, and the killer and a female standing outside his car. That is Fai, I’m sure of it.

Unfortunately for Champ, his father is corrupt and impedes the investigation Kamin and Jade are doing. In fact, his father gets Kamin booted off the case.

If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
